I pray that if there's any barriers in our heart of like, I don't know, I'm not too social. I don't know if I'll be good. I pray that you just tear those down like Jericho, Jesus. We live to come together as a family, as your heavenly family, Lord, and serve you, Father. So I pray this all in your name. Amen. The book of Genesis, chapter 27, verses 1 through 10.
When Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau, his older son, and said to him, my son. And he answered, here I am. He said, behold, I am old. I do not know the day of my death. Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me, and prepare for me delicious food such as I love, and bring it to me so that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.
Now, Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game and bring it, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, I heard your father speak to your brother Esau. Bring me game and prepare for me delicious food that I may eat it, and bless you before the Lord before I die. Now therefore, my son, obey my voice as I command you.
Go to the flock and bring me two good young goats, so that I may prepare from them delicious food for your father, such as he loves. And you shall bring it to your father to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies. This is the word of the Lord. Well, good morning. If you haven't already, turn to Genesis 27, 1 through 10. Incredible story of a blessing a father wants to give, an Old Testament-style blessing.
You got one to give, not like in the New Testament. You can just bless, because we got all the blessing in heaven now. But they had one blessing. You can study about why that is. And Jacob and Esau are the two sons. And it's supposed to go to Esau, and Jacob fights for it. He actually ends up stealing the blessing. Read Genesis 27. We're not going to look so much into all that story completely down the line today, but read Genesis 27 so you can stay up with this story and what's happening.
And we're looking at this idea of blessing. Now this week, I don't know if you saw in the Oxford report, the World Happiness Report came out. And we looked at the happiness rankings. It ranks the top 100 happiest countries in the world. And the United States came in at 23, which felt like kind of low. You know what I'm saying? 23 feels, I don't know, kind of mid, if you ask me.
It's something that's not really kind of kicking for all the things that we have in all the places and good things that are happening in this country. And they say part of the decline is people that are 25 years and younger. And they said that there has been a precipitous decline in what they consider happiness. Today, I want to talk about blessing.
And I want to talk about being a person of blessing and becoming aware of how we speak, how we think, and what we put forth from our very souls in a way that will change the way you live. If you dive into this understanding of the scripture and this idea of blessing, what you're going to see is that your life's going to change. The people around you are going to be affected in a different way.
The life that you live, the way that you live, the community that you develop, the way you think about yourself can be changed dramatically by blessing. And the question to you is this, do you consider yourself a person who regularly speaks God's faithfulness and blessing over people, over yourself, over your life, or do you tend to have agreement with probably negative outcomes, negative thoughts, things that are critical, and criticism?
In the Old Testament, blessing was a big deal. In the New Testament, blessing is an even bigger deal. And we have the ability to harvest the power of God with the words that we speak. And I want to challenge you as we leave here to become people of the blessing. You can become a person that lives surrounded by the blessing, but much of that has to do, according to the scripture, with if you're willing to release that blessing.
And blessing is often spoken. Most blessings in the scripture, there are a few that aren't, but blessing isn't released unless it's spoken. And so the way we speak, the things that we say, the thoughts we even think to ourselves are important. The key word today is impartation. Impartation. When you bless somebody, you are imparting the presence of God upon their life.
That's what blessing is. Blessing is a presence of God. That it is a supernatural presence of God. That when you speak blessing, I want to bless your marriage. We blessed, you know, the Sotos today. When you do that, you are actually imparting the presence of God. You are taking something and you are actually infusing it into their lives. You are setting up a boundary line around their life and you are putting God's presence upon that.
That's what a blessing is. It's an impartation. Paul speaks about this in Romans 1.11. Romans 1.11 says when he's going to come to visit, he says, I want to come to visit that I may impart to you some spiritual gift. You have the ability in an existential, ethereal, heavenly way, when you speak, when you speak blessing over your spouse, over your children, over your community, over the property or the land that you live on, when you do that, you impart God's presence.
Impartation is the key for the day. And the question is, what are you imparting? They call curse words curse words for a reason. When you speak them, it has been seen throughout human history that it is a curse. One of the reasons I, you know, stopped cussing, cursing, or at least do my best to not be in agreement with that, is I just don't want curse upon my life.
I don't want to speak regular curse upon my life just in random speaking. So realize if you're a person that's regularly speaking just randomly curses, that's going to bring an impartation into your life. Paul speaks about it a different way. He talks about it as spiritual gifts that can be imparted, but blessing can be imparted. I put, what is blessing?
You know what you're going to see in the Old Testament, the word for blessing is Barak. To bestow favor, to speak life, to speak fruitfulness, to speak life and fruitfulness. We live in a world that speaks death. Much of what I see on social media speaks death. Most of what I hear in Podtakistan, the new country, Podkastistan, is death. Talking about why someone's wrong, speaking negatively about other people.
They might be going in the direction you want to go, but it's just speaking regular death. You regularly hear encouragement. You look into the news. The news is rarely good. Hey, great things are happening over in this part of the country. We should all be stoked about it. When was the last time we saw that? We just, never is right. We're just constantly surrounding ourselves.
And they said the reason, Oxford said the reason that 25s and below are experiencing so much less happiness, I would say joy, is because they're surrounding themselves. They said it has to do with social media. What they are constantly surrounded with and putting themselves up to. In Genesis 1.22, it says God blessed. God is a blesser and he speaks blessing.
And when he created, he created with words, right? It was a spoken blessing. God said, let there be light. And there was light. When God speaks, he imparts his presence, his divine nature into situations. So in Genesis 1.22, it says, And God blessed them, saying, in Genesis 1.22, saying, Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the waters and the seas and let the birds multiply on the air.
And so you see the words there. Fruitful, multiplication, the filling of, that God is bringing a blessing. And it is a verbal impartation. When you speak blessing upon your family members, when you speak blessing upon your own life, you stop speaking negatively. It isn't some magical incantation. It is the impartation of God's presence. You are inviting God's presence to rest upon those you love or those you don't love.
Yesterday, I was with somebody, and I was at Home Depot, and they just weren't doing things the way I thought they should do it, right? And it's so easy. All of a sudden, I caught myself. Thank God I'm in this passage. I caught myself negatively thinking, and I thought, wait a second. I want to bless this person. So just under my breath, I just spoke it out.
I just blessed them with this. I blessed them with that. I blessed them with prosperity. I just blessed them with God's presence. I just want to bless them. I was so much happier. You know who blessed? God blessed the most. Yeah, 100%. That's right, me. If you think, well, what's this blessing? This is just a bunch of prosperity stuff. Okay. One, the word blessed is in the Old Testament 209 times.
In the New Testament, the word blessed is 82 times. That's almost 300 times just the word blessed. If you want to look at blessing, blessing in the Old Testament 71 times, New Testament 25 times. You got 400 uses of the word blessed or blessing in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Now, the New Testament sees a fulfilling of the Old Testament.
The Old Testament blessing is about provision. It's about barns and filling of barns and having cattle and sheep and all these riches. It's like it's all based in provision. Now, that gets fulfilled in the New Testament where you are now blessed in Jesus Christ. It says in Ephesians 1, 3 that you have been given every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms.
Now, I do hear people, all they do is teach the Old Testament. It's just, oh, God just wants to fill your barns and blah, blah, blah. Do I think God wants you to have what you need, your daily bread? Well, Jesus says yes. I do think that God wants you to be blessed to have your daily bread and your needs met, right? So I think that's a God thing.
But you can't just camp there and forget that it is probably more important because Jesus says, you know, bread is not what I eat. You guys don't understand what I'm doing. I'm communing with the Father that in the New Testament, the fulfilling of the blessing is an indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And all of the riches of heaven, love, joy, peace, patience, that you can bless people with, all of these happen in the New Testament.
And I want to balance the two as we teach, but I'm not going to throw out the Old Testament, you know, provision that God wants to provide for you because I'm afraid because people have taught that incorrectly, right? There are two, and God wants to have both of those elements. So you see that? You can look up blessed and blessing in the New Testament and Old Testament on your own.
First thing when we talk about blessing, we realize this. God is the author of all blessing. When you are blessing somebody, it isn't like you have a little, you know, bag of blessings that you carry around, you know, that you can say, oh, I have my own little bag of blessings, and I'm going to throw it this way or that way. You are actually reaching spiritually into the kingdom of heaven, into the presence of God, Ephesians 1, 3, the eternal blessings of God.
You are taking those blessings that are eternal. It's not one blessing. In this passage, Isaac has one blessing to give his son. And if he misses out, he misses out. But in the New Testament, it is eternal blessing. And so what you were doing is you were getting in agreement with what heaven would say about people or at least want for people. He would want them to have peace so you can bless them with peace.
God, I bless my child with your peace. I bless this atmosphere in this place with your provision. I bless it with your hope. I bless it with your kindness. I bless this person with your love. You were just constantly speaking God's blessing and constantly surrounding yourself with the power, the supernatural power and presence of God. And so God is the author of all blessing.
You see this in James 1, 17, back to the New Testament. Every good gift and every perfect gift, every good and perfect gift, not like the ones we give at Christmas, fall apart, perfect gift, is from where? It's from above. You don't own it. It's from above. And it comes down from the Father of lights, it says in James 1, 17, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
A blessing is the impartation and invitation of God's presence. It is the impartation. God has given you the ability as children of his to impart his presence upon what you want to impart it upon. We'll see that in just a moment. Jesus gives specifics about this. He says when you go into somebody's house, you can impart. We'll talk about that in just a second.
So the first thing is God is the author of all blessing. So when you're blessing somebody, you are getting in alignment with what God would have for this world, for these people, for your family. You're just getting in alignment with the goodness of God. And then you're speaking it and imparting it. Most every blessing in the Bible is spoken. If a blessing is not spoken, it is not released.
You need to speak your blessings. Now you can bless God with your heart. Oh my soul, bless God. There is some of that. But the majority of it is in a speaking. Let me just ask you, if you were to take a record of your week, a verbal, let's just say the recorder was on all week and we transcribed it in some AI, right? And we said, okay, break this up into blessings and things that would be considered not so much blessings.
I'm not sure I want to read that, right? In regard to how I spoke to my spouse. Break it up. It can do it. You could actually do this. You could record yourself, put it all into AI and ask it, how did I do in regard to speaking to my kids this week? Or speaking about my boss or speaking about the place where I work or the place that I live or about my health or whatever these blessings can be and ask me how I did.
You want to change the balance of that. Because you will become a person of blessing and not be stuck in the 23rd bracket of the most happy people on earth. Because you will have more than happiness. You will have joy. You will live in blessing. You can become a person of the blessing. The Bible is very clear about that. The question is, do you want to?
It's a lot more fun to gripe, right? Or all the headlines wouldn't be griping. And negativity. Why is our nature of death so attracted like a magnet to gossip, to hate, to disdain? Why? When we can have a blessing. When we can have this blessing that is upon us. Ephesians 1.3 says, Bless me to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who's blessed us in Christ, in Christ, with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
Isaac's blessing was three-dimensional. Isaac has a three-dimensional blessing. Let's go to verse 3 and 4. That's right. I see you. Now then. Take your weapons and your quiver. This is speaking to Esau, his first son. He wanted to go get a game. And your quiver and your bow. And go to the field and hunt game for me. Let's stop right there. That was an offering.
That is an archetype of an offering. So the father was asking for an offering. And so he was going to hunt and he was bringing an offering. And so oftentimes God blesses the offerings that we give him. Our lives are a sacrifice, it says in the New Testament, and we offer unto God. And oftentimes when we give an offering unto God, God consumes the offering and he blesses the one who offered it.
This goes all the way back to Cain and Abel. Right? And you see that. So that's what's happening there. It is an archetype. In verse 4, it says, And prepare for me some delicious food such I love and bring it to me that I may eat that my soul, circle soul, may bless you before I die. The first thing I'm going to show in the three-dimensional is it is what he says, I'm about to impart.
If you have your notes, there should be a line there. You can fill it in. The first of the three-dimensional blessing we have is an impartation. That was our word for the day. I'm about to impart, Isaac says, something spiritual upon you. Verse 4, And prepare for me delicious food such as I love. Bring it to me that I may eat that my soul may bless you before I die.
Where is that blessing coming from? Is it mine? It's coming from your soul. When you bless, you're not just thinking up a good blessing. You are actually taking, it is a soul's blessing. A blessing is supernatural. Your soul is eternal. Your soul is supernatural. It lives and dwells in God's ethereal realm. It is there. It is obviously in the body for a while, but it will go.
But when even Isaac understood, when he blessed, he blessed from his soul. You want to, as best you can, to ask God, search me and know me, oh God, and give me blessings. Teach me how to bless my enemies. God, give me the words to bless my children. Give me the words. And when you bless, realize that it is a soul's impardation that came from heaven.
Found that in James. It's also in Ephesians 1.3. It comes from heaven. You are harvesting it, and you are harvesting it, and you are transmitting blessing through your soul. You're transmitting blessing through your soul. And so this is more than just coming up with like, hey, I'm just going to manifest some stuff, or I'm just going to think of some happy things, or positive thinking.
This is so far beyond the realm of positive thinking. This is an eternal, supernatural impartation of the presence and power of God that you can wield as a weapon to claim territory in your life in this world as you bless everything and everywhere you go. I played basketball this week. I got there. I thought, I'm going to do this thing. I blessed this game.
I blessed the team I'm playing against. I'm just blessing. I'm just, ha, ha, ha. I blessed my car. I blessed the 67 freeway today. I blessed people at Costco. I blessed the church. I blessed a bunch of you as I prayed. I walked around the property that we have, and I began to bless it. I blessed my home. I blessed the doorways. I blessed my daughter.
I blessed my wife. I was just like, just throwing blessing fireballs everywhere. I'll tell you what, it's awesome. I thought, if I was number 23 in the world happiness rankings, I at least went up to 22 this week. Just by imparting blessing. Now you're saying, how do you do that? Come on. You can't really do that. What is this, something that comes out of your soul, and you can take it back if you want?
Well, Jesus says you can. Matthew 10, 12, 13 in the ESV. As you enter a house, greet it. Not the drywall, the people. And if, check this out. If the house is worthy, then let your peace rest upon it. But if it's not worthy, let your peace return to you. Man, he's like, you go into someone's house, and if there's a person of peace there, and the Bible also talks about going to cities and find the man of peace in the city.
Find somebody that resonates with that. Because when you bless somebody who is a person of peace with peace, there's going to be some resonance. Jesus is saying that you have a personal peace. Some people have a personal chaos. You feel it when they walk into a room. Might be you. You can say, I don't want that no more. I want to change that. Jesus says you have peace.
It is supernatural. It is ethereal. I get it. It's not magic. It's God's power. It's God's presence. It's what it is. It's what a blessing is. And he says you go into a home, you go into your school, wherever you go, and you release it. And you say, I'm bringing my peace to this place. And if that place proves to you a place that doesn't want peace, Jesus says receive it back.
And go on and find somewhere else. In certain cities, he says, when you walk out of that city, just wipe the dust off your feet as a testimony against them that they would not receive me. Because it is the peace of God that they are rejecting, not your peace. See, God has given you a measure of peace. The question is, how much do you want? Because he says the measure is eternal, but how much you harvest is up to you.
I don't know. So many people today walk around grumbling, myself included sometimes. I caught myself this week doing that myself. Just grumbler. Feels good to be a grumbler, doesn't it? Why does it feel so good to grumble? Maybe you don't think so, but I like it. Ah, lying at Costco for my $1.75 pizza? It's too long. Getting a slice of pizza for $1.75.
Right? And a hot dog for like a buck. I'm still complaining. It's an impartation. It's this first thing you're imparting. The second thing is you are affirming identity. Go to verse 1. When Isaac was old, his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau, his older son, and said to him, My son. And he answered him, Here I am. That's in the scripture a lot.
That little back and forth is in the scripture in a lot of places. You're going to see it in Matthew 3.17. Not the here I am, but it says, after Jesus came out of the water, a voice, a voice, because it's spoken. A voice from heaven. God didn't need to have a voice from heaven. He wasn't talking for himself. He was speaking a blessing. If you don't speak it, you aren't releasing it.
He said, A voice from heaven. And a voice from heaven said, This is my son, whom I love, and with him I am well pleased. This is a profound declaration from God the Father regarding Jesus Christ spoken at his baptism. I would tell my daughters, my daughters know they're blessed. I got into this teaching a long time ago by some great mentors that surrounded me, and they said, With your children.
You speak blessing of your children. Regularly. And I would tell my daughters all the time, I'm proud of you. And I bless you. And you know why I'm proud of you? And they know the answer now. And I said, And the answer is because you're you. Because God created you to be who you are, and it's not based on your performance. So there's all these things that you can do, and I can still be proud of you and not proud of what you did.
I'm not proud of that thing you did or the thing I did sometimes. But I speak blessing over you. And I will tell you one thing. That both my daughters and my wife know that they are received and loved. And adored and blessed by their husband and their father. And I say to them, You are my daughter, and I bless you, my daughter. Because when you bless, you are calling out identity, and you are imparting God's presence upon that identity.
I can't speak today. When I walked my property yesterday, I walked it, and I said, I just speak over this property, God, that you have given me. We call it Bluebird Oaks Ranchita. We have a little name for it. Call it a name. Waited a long time to have that. I'm actually getting three ewe lambs. I'm getting three lambs. I'm going to actually be a real shepherd at some point.
I know. Pretty cool. I'll take pictures. I'm a real shepherd, right? And so I walked over, and I just spoke to the name of it. I just said, you know, Bluebird Oaks. You can name your apartment, all right? I've been naming stuff my whole life, right? I named my car the Humble Wagon that I had for a long time because I drove it for 18 years. It was old.
But I just blessed it. And you speak identity to them. Husbands, when you speak to your wife, you can call them by name, but just say, You are my wife, and I bless you. Lay your hands on your wife and bless your wife. I rarely let my kids out of the car to go to school without blessing them and covering them with provision and protection. And when they got home, I blessed them again because I've always wanted to be a person of the blessing.
And the more I've done it, the more this teaching has come alive. Is your house a house of blessing, or is it filled with curses unintentionally? You just unintentionally speak negativity over yourself, over your kids, over their performance, over whatever happened in some other part of the world. You just let it into your house. Anything you speak, the words have the power, Scripture says, of life and death.
The last thing we see is when you speak, you speak favor upon the future. Blessing speaks favor upon your future. It speaks God's presence upon your future. It's not magical. I'm not saying there's some magic in it. It's God's presence. And if God's presence is in your future, you have a good future. So he's speaking an impartation, an affirmation of identity, and favor upon the future.
In Genesis 12, 2, Isaac's father understood this because when God blessed him, and this whole story of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob is about the blessing of God upon a family that becomes a nation, that becomes a Messiah that saves the entire world and the cosmos. He says in Genesis 12, 2, I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you. I will make your name great so that you will be a blessing.
He says, I will make of you a great nation. He speaks favor upon that. He speaks provision upon that and speaks to that. And so we see God continuing to do that and to speak favor and to ask for more of God's presence. God wants to enlarge your territory. Now, I'm not telling you that a bunch of Bitcoin is going to be given to you immediately. Like, I'm not promising you that.
That's not what I'm saying, okay? Do I think God has provision that he wants to provide for you? 100%. He says that he will give you your daily bread. I guess that's all we really need, right? It says in the scripture, don't give me too little that I might steal. And don't give me too much that I might forget you. The New Testament fulfills this and that.
I already said that we have Christ. So here's the practical implications and the takeaways. First is this, practical takeaways. Learn and speak blessings. A blessing left unspoken remains unreleased. What is not declared cannot be imparted. I believe that's almost always true. Little margin for being able to bless without speaking. Learn and speak blessing.
Memorize your blessings. Spend time figuring out your blessings. It's worth a cup of coffee sitting down with a book and saying, where do I want to bless my life? Where do I want to bless my wife? Where do I want to bless my children? Where do I want to bless my work? How do I want to bless my enemies? It's worth your time because as you do it, you will be seeding the ground with blessing.
And blessing brings fruit. We want to be people that speak blessing. And the other thing I say is break agreement with curses. There is a lot of curses. You hear people speak them. A lot of times if you have a fear reaction, all of a sudden a fear reaction, if you sit and ask yourself, where is that fear coming from? It's most often times tied to an anti-biblical narrative about you.
That this is going to happen to you or because this happened to you, this next thing will happen to you. To sit down and to figure out. And your emotions are some of the best triggers. When you have fear, depression, anxiety, whatever those things are. As those things show up, you sit and you ask God, search me and know me, oh God. Ask God, what is the false narrative?
And then you refute it with scripture. And then you speak the blessing of scripture upon your life. Here's what I say. I think my job is blessing creation and God can edit and distribute as he wishes. If he says, Adam, that blessing, you're going too far down the road on that. You just want riches. Fine, God, edit that out then. My job is blessing creation.
I'm a writer. We'll let the publishing company deal with the editing and the distribution. Be a person of blessing. You know what? Everyone loves a person of blessing. You want to be liked? Just bless people. Bless them at Starbucks. Bless them as you get your cup. Hey, bless you today. May God just favor you and bless you. Throw in the favor word and then they'll know you're a Christian.
Just don't say bless you. Everyone says bless you. Just say, hey, I just pray that God bless. I hope that God bless. What's your name? Oh, Tony. I pray, Tony, that God would just bless you and favor you and just bless your future. It's going to be like an emotional bomb in their life. I've got to come in for a landing with this final story. Masaru Emoto, maybe you've heard of him, wrote a book in 1999 called The Messages from Water, where he took water and he spoke kind words over water.
He did this with plants as well. He spoke kind words over water and then he would curse other water. And some water he would take polluted water and pray for it. And the whole book is just pictures under the microscope of water. He would freeze it and take a picture of what the frozen image of the water would look like. It's fascinating. He did it with trees and little plants.
He'd speak life to plants and he'd pray over them. He wasn't a Christian. I'm not saying this is scientific. It's just a book about a guy and I thought was interesting. And so he would speak all this goodness and these did really well according to him. And these started dying. Go look it up. It's called Messages from Water 1999 from Masaru Emoto.
I'm going to say whether that's true or not, I want to give you an opportunity this week to experiment with the same thing. Over your children, just start saying really positive blessings over them. You're not speaking just positivity. We're not, you know, like I said, manifesting something. Speak God's word over them. Tell them how much you are loved.
I want you to know you have a father who loves you and I bless you with being a daughter not only of the king but my daughter or my son. And I bless you. I bless you with courage. I bless you with hope. I bless you with joy. With your wife. Put your hands on your wife's shoulder. Tell her how much you love her and bless her and say you are my wife.
And no one will speak to you in curses and myself included. And where I have done that in the past or said negative things about you, I ask and I repent before you that I would not speak to you in that way again. And if you catch me speaking in that way, please let me know in the moment because I need to repent immediately. Wives, the same thing.
Speak positively. It doesn't mean you can't speak your truth and say, hey, you didn't fix that thing I asked you to fix. Or guys, same thing. But you just need to say it in a way that brings blessing. Say, hey, you made a promise to me. And I just, I want you to know that you would do this thing and it didn't happen. I just want you to know that I, you know, it hurt my feelings or whatever it is.
But be people of the blessing. Amen? Let's stand if you would because I'm going to bless you. We've run out of time. So I will not have the worship band come forward. But the prayer team will come forward. I've been blessing you for 12 years now at the end of the service. So you know I got a track record of doing this with you all. And I want to bless you again right now.
Lord Jesus, if you want to extend your hands, I want to bless you. I want to impart to you a blessing. Jesus, you showed us in the Old Testament that you want to bless us with provision, with care. We know that matters to you. So God, first of all, I pray for daily bread. And if you want, God, you can edit this one beyond daily bread. I pray that we just have more influence as believers, more brick and mortar, just more influence to make a difference for you, not for our own selves.
And now I bless this congregation with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. I bless their marriages. I bless their children. I bless their very mouths, that they would speak the words of God and speak words of truth. That we become a place of the blessing. That this church becomes a place of the blessing. We ask forgiveness where we have spoken negatively.
And to ourselves, that we can hear our own inner monologues. That we no longer think those thoughts, but we speak blessing in a way that goes antithetical to the narratives of the enemy and the devil. I bless you now to go out to have the best day that you've had in months. To bless you with your family. To bless you and send you out. In the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen. We love you guys.
