By the time the visitors promise a son within the year, this is the sixth time Abraham and Sarah have heard it. Rondi Pogue preaches the laugh behind the tent flap, the question God asks instead of a rebuke, and draws a careful line around what faith does and does not guarantee.

Rondi Pogue starts generously: the crowd follows Jesus because they have seen him heal people, which is not a pure motive, and he feeds them anyway. The question he asks Philip was never for information — Jesus asks questions to teach.

Rondi Pogue, who directs a ministry working in conferences, India and the local jails, preaches on the question her work puts her in front of constantly: am I bad? The distinction the message rests on is shame as a claim about what a person is.
