Scripture: Acts 19:13-20

Ephesus deserves the description Pastor Adam gives it: a twenty-thousand-seat theatre with acoustics people still study, a library holding twelve thousand hand-copied scrolls, and the temple of Artemis at the centre of it. Advanced, literate, and thoroughly pagan.

Three words come out of the passage and he wants all three circled. Known. Openly, and confessed. Publicly. What changed the city was not private conviction but people going public.

The first point is that evil requires secrecy to function. Adam distinguishes carefully here — not everything should be said to everyone, and there are legitimate circles of confidence — but a thing kept hidden and alone is fertile ground. The antidote he names is not exposure but intimacy: somewhere, someone, wisdom and modesty intact.

The second is what those new believers actually did. They brought out their scrolls and burned them publicly, and the value came to fifty thousand drachmas — Adam works it out at well over a century of wages. Then the sentence that follows: in this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. The growth was downstream of the bonfire.

Two takeaways. Remove secrecy and put intimacy in its place. And take an inventory of what still needs to go into the fire.

Key topics:

  1. Known, openly, publicly — the three words that changed a city
  2. Secrecy removed, intimacy put in its place
  3. A bonfire worth a century of wages, and what grew after it

The Book of Acts, chapter 19, verses 13 through 20. Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon possessed. They would say, in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out. Seven Sons of s Skiva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this one day.

The evil spirit answered them, Jesus, I know and I know about Paul, but who are you? Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.

Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. A number who had practiced sorcery, brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to 50,000 DMAs. In this way, the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. This is the word of the Lord.

If you have your Bibles open up to Acts 19, 17 through 20, we are in the city of Ephesus. And if you know the city of Ephesus from the time around Jesus, even before, it is one of the most advanced cosmopolitan in religious cities in the entire world, especially in the far East and the Middle East. Uh, it was in modern day Turkey, uh, would've been Armenia at some point.

An Ephesus is a town where it is all happening. Uh, if you were to walk into the city of Ephesus, you're gonna see it on the map here. First of all, uh, you're gonna see where Ephesus is, and as you walk through the streets, it was really advanced. Uh, it had been there for about 700, 800 years at this point. And this is kind of what it looked like when Paul walked in there, uh, about 20 years or so after Jesus had died on the cross.

Some of the things you might have seen there as you walked in was a theater. They had a 20,000 seat arena that had incredible acoustics that you could go to. I mean, this is advanced. We're talking 2000 years ago, you would've saw the Celsius Library. The Celsius library had over 12,000 scrolls. And you imagine how valuable those are all handwritten on papyrus and different things, but it was a, it was a city of learning, incredible learning.

And they had this incredible, um, desire to know it was influenced by the Greeks and knowledge. Uh, you would've also seen the temple of Artemis. Temple of Artemis was a center of occult worship. This is where Artemis was. It says that Artemis in Acts, uh, 1935, a little further on in the chapter, fell from the sky and dwelled there. Artemis is the Roman, or the, the Greek version of the Roman Diana, who was a goddess of fertility and a huntress.

We're gonna speak about her next week and talk more into that. But it was this incredible center. You can leave that picture up where people would show up and worship the supposedly virgin goddess, uh, for fertility. And so you saw that happening, and it is believed that Satan himself dwelt there because of this reference that she fell from the sky, which is also seen in the scripture when Jesus mentions that Satan, he saw Satan fall from the sky.

So we're gonna talk more about that a little bit next week. Another person you might have seen by 80 40 or so, um, not too long after Jesus died, would've been the mother of Jesus, which is a bit iron ironic because you have this virgin Diana, so to speak, uh, but this is, uh, a recreation there in Ephesus where Mary, the mother of Jesus lived, they believe she lived there, that John actually took her there and he wrote the book of John, they believe, perhaps in Ephesus. So imagine walking through this city, seeing all these things walking by this temple where all this occult worship was happening. And then you see Mary, the mother of Jesus there.

There's a lot going on in Ephesus, and it's really interesting as we look into that. Uh, as I talked about the temple of Artemis. The temple of Artemis was one of the seven wonders of the world, according to Antipater of Siddons, the list of the ancient wonders, seven wonders of the world. And so you had a whole list of those. You had the, the pyramids and different ones that he had seen.

You can look those up later on your own. But it was, he, uh, you know, Antipater said that the temple of Artemis was actually the greatest of all of the seven wonders of the ancient world I came across in some study. It says, Ephesus was a stronghold of Satan. How, uh, here many evil things, both superstitious and Satanic were practiced.

Books containing formulas for sorcery and other ungodly and forbidden arch were plentiful in the city. Now remember in last week, we had this encounter with these, uh, sons of s skiva who are trying to cast out demons. You can see why there would be a flourishing demon casting out exorcism business in this kind of place. And that happened a lot.

And there was money that was being made on the spiritual things if they got in over their heads, as you saw here. Uh, they, they tried to profit off the name of Jesus, but yet they were not under Jesus coverings and they suffered for it. And so that has never gone well. Whenever you've tried to commercialize the name of Jesus or God in the scripture, that never goes well. One of the things we saw, um, um, Gabrielian, who was one of the speaker, uh, one of the historians wrote, uh, and I was studying this, he said, the bedrock of the occult is often secrecy and in our own lives, it's personal secrecy. Now, right now, I'm, I'm running this, um, celebrate Recovery group.

And one of the first things you see when people get into recovery and you see an AA is the first step in AA is we did what we admitted that we were powerless. And so there's, there's, there's power in confession, right? There's power in admission. And when groups and people come together, and that's actually what happened here in the scripture, I think you see in verse 17 or 19, it says, the people came together as we'll talk about here in a moment, and publicly admitted the things that they had been doing in secrecy and in the dark. And they got 'em out in the light. And once things were in the light, light is the best disinfected, and they are purified.

So we could talk about all the things of darkness and the deeds of darkness. I don't really want to give the enemy a stage in the pulpit, but what I do wanna do to for you is to speak about the power of living with transparency, living in the light, and not having things that are secret in our lives. And secret, I mean, hiding things that we shouldn't, uh, we know that we should not have.

So there's, there's, there's three words I want you to circle. You're gonna find them here in the scripture, and they're starting in verse 17. The first word is known. Circle the word known. It's important. There is some words of transparency here that you're gonna see in verse 18. There's a word openly and confessed circle openly and confessed, known openly and confessed. And then in verse 19, publicly, what they did was public. The people that turned to Jesus, uh, did so in a public way. We've had 12 people, 13 people be baptized in the last three weeks here at the church.

Baptism is important. You're not saved because of baptism. We're saved because of faith in Jesus Christ. But it's a public admonition that we believe in Jesus. And so people are baptized to show that. And so those three words are known openly and publicly. There's two points that we're gonna look at today. The first is walking the lights. Evil dwells in secrecy.

The devil loves secrecy. The devil loves, uh, um, shadow. He loves being in the secrecy. Walk in the light, have the light, walk in the light. Evil dwells in in secrecy. And number two, Christ followers who walk in power, we talked about that word last week, that word power, two different types of power. The one was dunamis.

There's multiple words for power in the scripture. One was dunamis. Dunamis means God's power. He's working, he's doing miracles. And then there was kratos. Kratos was dominion, was territorial power oversight, where you see God's kingdom begin to influence people's thoughts, decisions, actions in a city. And so that's one thing we're trying to do when we have Chris out there, uh, singing, uh, the Star Spangled Banner at the, um, stadium, is that some kratos, we have a believer out there sharing Christ, walking outta the field in a public place who is singing, is singing, you know, uh, uh, about our nation, about, you know, God and, and following God in that way.

And so we see that's Christ followers who walk in power have surrender. That's a key word. Every dark, every dark, not a few, every dark and evil thing, to what the consuming fire of God. Now, these believe these people who became believers actually took their magical arts, as you saw, uh, here, uh, in verse 14, after verse 14, it goes on and, um, down to verse 19 and beyond, you see that they took their, their scrolls, their things, their, that they were dwelling in secrecy, and they brought 'em out.

They actually burned them. They actually threw 'em in a pile. And they had like a public, you know, they had a book burning is what they had. They took all these books worth 50,000 drma, which is a day's salary. One drma is, is a, is a day's salary. So really, really, um, interesting for you to add that up. And it says every dark thing to the consuming fire of God.

And so what we want to do is take our lives and we want to give our lives as a sacrifice. I think there's two things we're gonna look at today. One, are there things in our life that just need to be gone? Like, I remember when I was trying to get sober, how many times did I throw away a bong? You know what I mean? How many, I'm gonna throw it away. I'm never gonna do it again. You know?

And then only to go rebuy it down at ob at the black, you know, uh, over and over again. But eventually got to the place where, um, I said, those things are no longer have territory in my life. Those things don't have cro toss in my life. And I went around and I decided what actually needed to be cast out, thrown into the trash. I didn't actually do any burnings, uh, but threw some things away. And then also in my own heart, my life had become a sacrifice. Uh, it says that God is a consuming fire, and our life be, will become a sacrifice. Can the ushers help me with a, I think I got a baby rattle or something going on there. We love babies, but, um, just to let you know, that's kind of, maybe it's outside. Um, and so we want our life to be a consuming sacrifice so God only can consume sacrifices, right? And so if our life is not a sacrifice, it's not gonna be consumed by the fire of God. So those are two things.

The first is walk in the light, evils dwells in secrecy. And then number two, Christ followers who walk in power have surrendered every dark and evil thing to the consuming fire of God. Let's go to number one. Walk in the light, evil dwells in secrecy. Verse 17, when this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear. We had that word circle known, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. That was the result.

Many of those who believed now came an openly confessed their evil deeds. First thing is this word known. I had to circle that for a reason. What became known, uh, became known that the sons of Skiva had gotten a beat down from a demon. That they had tried to use other magical arts or things to control demons. Uh, and then they ended up being, being, uh, you know, afflicted by these demons.

But when the name of Jesus was actually made known to show that it had power, because the demon actually says to them, Hey, Jesus, I know and Paul I know, but who are you? When the name of Jesus became known, it took authority and it shook the roots of their foundation, of their understanding of the spiritual order and how things work.

Cuz once again, this is a city that has a juxtaposition of, Hey, we believe in science. We believe in scrolls. We believe in all the knowledge, we believe in reason. But this massive trade, one of the giant festival cities, there was a group of festivals that would go around to all these different temples, and every month or so they'd have different festivals.

And Ephesus was a, was a city where they'd have massive parades and they would have festivals and people would show up. So they were, they were balancing these two things. They were balancing the idea of, Hey, we believe in this knowledge, we're knowledge based, we're the Greeks, we're knowledge based Mars Hill. But then they're having these witchcraft, pagan festivals with, you know, and believing in the occult and all this, you know, those value of those books was 10, you know, 50,000 drop was 50,000 days of a person's wages.

I think I added that up to like 136 years of wages about somewhere between, you know, 15 and $20 million where they took this. And when the name of Jesus was made known, when it was shown to sit on high, you can actually see what happened. This is actually what happened in the society. It says, when this became known, what, what happened to the sons of Cheba? Yeah, that was part of it.

But what had made known is that the power, the name of Jesus had power. The name of Jesus had power to bend the authorities that are, that are in the heavens, which these people believed in and recognized and understood. Now, in our culture, we're, we're heavy science based, we're big Mars Hill, right? But there was a massive shift right now happening to more and more people are getting into the occult. More and more people are starting to seek these things.

There has been an uptick since 1991, according to a 2017 Newsweek article of people that have, that have gotten involved in witchcraft. There was 9,000, uh, Wiccans, it said in 1991, uh, by 2017 there was 1.5 million. At 1.5 million is eclipsing, uh, the amount of Presbyterians you have in the world. Uh, in America, you have 1.4 million Presbyterians. In ni in 2017, you add 1.5 million Wiccans. And by, uh, 2023, you now have 2 million Wiccans that are in our society today.

So you see a change, right from we're, we're having the same thing that's happening in Ephesus. More and more people are getting involved as they seek as, as they're being let down, maybe by what they believe in science. They're being let down and they're seeking spiritual power. This is what happened in this verse, but that was upended what?

By the name of Jesus. So you see what happened here, verse 17, when this became known to the Jews and the Greeks, and that's important there. Jews and Greeks, because the Jews represent religious people. The Greeks are representing the people of knowledge and the scientific community, but there's also a lot of paganism that's happening.

You had the gods and obviously the Romans. So you had this balance there. When it became too known to all those communities living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear. They were seized with fear. And the name of the Lord was what held in high honor. Something had shifted. Now, what is interesting is Paul didn't even do anything.

It wasn't like Paul went and cast out a demon or done something like that. This was something that happened out extracurricular to the church. You had these sons of s Skiva go there and do this thing, and when, when, when it didn't work out, and they saw that there was, that they had been beaten by these demons, it terrified everyone, they all of a sudden realized, what are, whoa, we're dealing with something that we cannot control.

That's the thing with addictions, right? Sometimes we, we, or, or or things that we get ourselves into. We seem to think that we can control these things, right? But when we find out we can't, all of a sudden everything is broken down. And that is what happened here. It says, then they were seized with fear. Well, what caused them to have fear?

The bedrock of what they believed to be true was shook The bedrock of what they believed to be true was shook. And when that happened, they looked for something solid. People look around in our world today, and they say, how will Jesus ever make a comeback in America? Jesus will make a comeback in the same way that made a comeback in Ephesus.

The temple of Artemis had been there for 700 years before Paul even got there. 700 years our country's been here, what? 200, 2 50, something like that. Maybe a little bit further before you know. But as a nation, about 200, a little bit over 200, 700 years, they have been practicing a cult worship in this place. One event happens, the name of Jesus is lifted high, and everything they know is broken. And all of a sudden, people are searching for something that is an anchor in our society. Today, the foundations of what has been believed as true and powerful are beginning to show fissures. They're beginning to crack. People are saying, the people I trusted maybe didn't tell me the truth sometime, or the things that I believed in spiritually maybe weren't as effective as I thought they were. And people are searching.

I am having some of the best spiritual conversations I have ever had as a believer in my entire life. There is a rich, fertile ground to do what Dan Jackson's gonna talk about, apologetics, to talk to people about who God is, and asking them what they believe and, and what they follow. This is what happened. I told you I had a word from the Lord two weeks ago when I was discouraged.

And the Lord said to me, I told this last week, he said, I change the tide every single day. The entire ocean, twice a day, moves the entire ocean. 22 foot title changes during the, you know, the peak times, you know, in Alaska and places like that. I move the entire ocean two times a day. Don't think that I can't immediately change what's happening like I did here in Ephesus. You see, when the bedrock of what people believe is shook, there was fertile ground for the anchor and the name of Jesus to be lifted high. And that's what happened. And it was so, I mean, it was, the entire city was shook by this event. You see, when it became known to the jus the, the, the, the, the Jews and the Greeks living in Ephesus, that's all of them.

They were all, they all circle, all seized with fear. They were seized with fear. And I, I do believe that there's an anxiety problem in our country. We are being seized with fear. There's depression, suicide. But for sure, people are being seized with fear. Why is that? Why are we seized with fear? Why does anxiety happen in our lives?

It happens when the things that what we believe that keep us secure when we believe, we know that we have anchors in our life. And those anchors are no longer there. They become unhinged, unshackled from the things that brings us security. We become awashed in fear that is happening. I, I and I, and I, I want to affirm to you that the same thing that happened, Ephesus is happening today. And if you will take, have the courage to step out and have conversations with people, you will see many people turn to the power of Jesus when they see that there is an anchor in what has become known in the name of Jesus.

So the incident of the Sans Skiva called an a aware, caused an awareness within the community, resulted in fear when the founda, I wrote, when the foundations of what people understand to be true is shook or shaken, the result is often fear and a desire for stability, a desire for stability. We had a couple words that were there.

One they openly confessed. I talked about that, um, a little bit with in, you know, earlier that that confession is powerful. Is there perhaps something in the right circle of context that needs to be confessed? I think we need to be careful. Sometimes, you know, what you might confess to a small group of friends is not maybe what you should confess in the name of openness and transparency to every single person in the church. There are, there are circles of confidential confidentiality, but to hide by yourself in the darkness or to have some secret thing is where Satan has fertile ground.

And one of the most powerful spiritual tools you can see, and this is why baptism is a tool, is to actually out yourself. I've been so encouraged by the group that has shown up on Tuesday nights, and I can't tell you who they are, but if you show up, you can meet 'em. Um, you know that it is, it, it's a, it's a group of anonymity, but they show up and you're surprised who shows up what Wow.

And when they share their stories, I'm so encouraged as they kind of just out themselves, Hey, I, I can't believe I had this happen in my life and I did that in my life. And they begin to openly confess what they have done. But we focus on the solution more often than just the things that had happened. They did it publicly. I said, it's significant that these practitioners of magic came confessing and telling their deeds.

It was thought that the power of these magic spells in the time was in their secrecy, which was renounced in the telling. It was believed that the power was in the secrecy. The Bible was very clear to talk about that, that Satan masquerades as an angel of light, but he is the father of darkness. He loves darkness, and he will work in darkness until there is no opposition.

And then things, he'll do things in the light, he'll finally step out when there's no opposition. But his favorite territory is darkness and secrecy. In John one nine, there's this incredible verse. First John one, nine. Now these little verses that I put in here, you can cut these out, just take 'em home with a pair of scissors, cut 'em out and put 'em on your refrigerator.

And I put 'em there in those boxes for a reason so they can become a tool that you can use during the week to learn the word of God. And if you have it on your fridge, just put it there. And this is what it says. This is the message. This is John, this is the message we have heard from him. And declare to you, God is what? God is light in him. There is no darkness at all if we claim to have fellowship with him, yet we walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.

But if we walk in the light, is he in the, in the light and have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son purifies us from all sin. One of the ways to have fellowship with one another is to be open with one another. That's why transparency is one of our values at the church that it breeds fellowship. Did you see that they had fellowship with one another?

That when you feel that you can try, when somebody is open with you and you feel like they're open and transparent and they're honest with you, then oftentimes that brings stability and it builds fellowship, right? That's why we dislike secrecy in government. We dislike secrecy in the church. We dislike those types of secrecy. Now, I want to just give a def a d a differentiation between secrecy and modesty. Intimacy and wisdom.

Modesty is not secrecy. Modesty is doing something out of wisdom in order not to flaunt, not to show something that is beyond, or intimacy is something that might have in a family, or there's an intimate conversation where somebody is shared with you and you're never gonna share that. I mean, people tell me things all of the time.

My job is based in, in trust, in wisdom, in intimacy. And people tell me that, that the, the greatest joys of their life and the darkest, you know, um, you know, problematic things of their life. And my job security is based on me being able to hold that intimacy there. People expect that is not secrecy. When someone tells somebody and confesses and comes confessing.

There is a difference. And we've thrown out modesty in the name of transparency today. We've thrown out, you know, everything is known. You go to the things that people share on social media, like if it was like 1986 or 72 or 64, and you, you're like, what did you just write? And everybody's like, yeah, celebrate, like, like, like, like, like we've lost the understanding of that.

And so secrecy in the meaning in the Bible is something that, that you're coveting, that you don't want anybody to know. You're keeping it secret. It could be a shame, it could be something that happened. And, and, and, and also with survivors sometimes, you know, people have had something happen in their life that's very traumatic and it's, and it's become a burden to care on your own. And finding someone in, in intimacy that you can share that with, Hey, this happened to me.

I can't carry this burden anymore, but I need to share it with one person or two people, or whoever it is that you bring it out into intimacy and then use wisdom on how much you share when you share it. I don't share every single thing with my wife, you know, I don't share, um, you know, things that happened back in my past.

I don't share all these, these things that happened. Um, you know, because my wife doesn't need to know everything that happened in my, she doesn't need a full expose of Adam's darkest moments in tj, okay? That's called wisdom. It's not called secrecy, right? But if I've got, you know, you know, a, a a, you know, a person online that I'm connected with and it's secret and I have, you know, whatever it is that's secrecy, that's keeping that away.

We need to know the difference between modesty, intimacy, wisdom and secrecy. You'll know when you're keeping something secret and something that needs to come out. Do you have secret things in your life? These people took the things, the evil deeds that they had done in the dark. I won't even go into 'em, but it's pretty, you know, it's pretty gnarly some of the things they were doing in Ephesus.

And the interesting thing is, those things are starting to be happening in our society again today. And it's being celebrated today in our society. They came out, they publicly denounced them and threw them away. Let's go. Number two. Christ followers who walk in power, that's dunamis and RAAs have surrendered every dark and evil thing to the consuming fire of God.

Verse 19, A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, total came to 50,000 Drma. In this way. In this way, the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. What caused the word of the Lord to grow in power? What caused the word of the Lord to grow? It was people who had then believed, who publicly confessed and got rid of the darkness in their life.

And that caused the dark, the, the, the cro toss the power of God to grow in power. Just if we as a church, if this room right here just went and took an inventory of whatever might be secret or might be darkness in your life, maybe it's not even secret, it's just darkness in your life. You're like, I want to get rid of it.

If just this room went and took an inventory and said, you know what? You don't belong here anymore. Nope, nope, nope. This here, this book on this, this, this Middle Eastern practice that I no gone and I'm just gonna do have the things of Jesus in my life. There would be a ou, a dramatic amount of God's cratos just in our, his power, his, uh, influencing power, territorial power in the city of San Diego and in La Jolla and the surrounding communities. Just because we did it. Because this is a lot of people.

And the power of God is exponential when we get those things out of our lives. I remember we had a guy named Al Man Coney, and maybe you remember, if you were in the church in the 1980s, Al Man Coney would come around and he would talk about music. And I had a, I had a massive CD collection and I had everything I had. I just, and I, and I was convincing myself that it didn't influence me.

And Al spoke and he gave this word. And I think I had like 350 to 500. I dunno, I had a lot of CDs, I had a lot of CD collection was cool. So I don't know if, did millennials have CDs? I don't know. But we had CDs. And I remember I went home and I just said, I'm gonna take an inventory of those. And I went and I just took a hammer and I'm like, you know what? Bam, bam. And I took all these one I just sat before and I said, Lord, should I have this one? Nope. Out, Nope out made a decision to clear my house out of anything that was radical. Man, we don't need to do that as adults, right?

Like, I was like, 19. So let's just leave that in 19 year olds. No, I think we all need to continue to do that. I can't think of anything currently in my home right now that has this smell of darkness on it. Although the Lord was like, how about your Spotify playlist? How's that going? That's in your pocket. It's downloaded on your phone, you own it. It's on your person. I'm like, come on, Lord, you're getting a little crazy right now. Spotify playlist.

That ain't gonna mess with me. I gotta go do that. I wanna look, I don't wanna have anything that reeks, that speaks of darkness, you know, and all those different things that we use. And so he says that they burn them publicly. We are just to, to, to, uh, you knowle any concerns. We're not having a public burning of your things here at the church.

Although I considered hiring a, an incinerator. You can get them for $1,200. Relax, relax. Hebrews 1229 says this, our God is a consuming fire. If you sacrifice, if you say, God, I'm gonna sacrifice this, I'm gonna, this doesn't belong in my life. You, you can figure out what it is. I'll need to give you a hundred examples.

This doesn't belong here anymore. You sacrifice those to God. He not only will remove that thing for your life, he will give you, he will consume you. He will consume you. I, I was speaking to a person this week. They said, Hey man, you know, I'd convinced myself that marijuana, that, you know, cuz it's legal and everything wasn't, wasn't bugging me. You know what?

I had lost my creativity. I had lost myself. I quit. And it's like all of a sudden the word of God, Ecclesiastes has opened up to me. I'd never been able to understand that. But it opened up. I can understand it. It's been clear. All of a sudden, he just was going off. He said, I just had to get this outta my life. I convinced myself, cuz it's legal, it's good, just cuz it's legal doesn't mean it's good. And he just said, I'm, I'm done with it. RAAs power influence.

He told me about a business venture because of this. I'm gonna open up this new business venture. Look at what if that succeeds. It sounds pretty cool. What if that succeeds RAAs? And the word of the Lord grew in power, so we wanna do that. They, they did this thing, they did it publicly. And that's why baptism is so important. So here's your practical takeaways.

Number one, let's remove secrecy from our lives. Secrecy is that negative secrecy, right? And in its place, let's employ intimacy. So maybe there's some things that you know, you shouldn't share with the kids, but there's a men's group or a women's group or a pastor on staff that you can come and say, Hey, I gotta get this out and I'm gonna have an intimacy and using wisdom.

When you remove secrecy, remove secrecy. Secrecy is the negative thing. Intimacy, wisdom and modesty. Those are things of God. And so one, just take an inventory this week I'm gonna remove secrecy from life. No more secrecy. And then the second one, the final one is this. Take an inventory in your life of what might need to be surrendered to the fire.

You wanna go burn it. Go burn it. I don't care. Get rid of it. What need this thing, no longer has you, you, you know, this might've worked when I was 14, but it doesn't work anymore. And I want to be rid of it. I want to be rid of it. Take an inventory, rid yourself, and then say, God, please consume me. I want the consuming fire of God.

Maybe join us on Tuesday night at six 30 or at six o'clock I'll be there. You can show up for the first time and say, Hey, I've got a problem. But I want to be free because we want power. We wanna see power in your homes. We wanna see more influence with your children, more influence in your relationships. We wanna see God name lifted on high. Amen.
