That way it may bring forth fruit that is pleasing unto you, O Heavenly Father. We thank you for this season of celebration as we celebrate the 4th of July, O Lord God, and desire our independence, O Heavenly Father. Continue, let us know, Lord God, that we have true freedom in you. For we thank you and we praise you. Because in Jesus' name we pray, amen.

The letter of James, chapter 1, verses 19 through 21. Know this, my beloved brothers. Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

This is the word of the Lord. As your love And wave after way Crushes over me Crushes over me For you are a voice You are my guest Champion of heaven You made a way for all to enter in Right on. Well, good morning. You noticed I did have a wardrobe change, because it was a little warm. I just had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction, so I had to go. We were always ready.

We're always ready. Don't be afraid. Got the captain on the ship. Let's do it. Hey, got two announcements for you. One, as many of you know, we have joined an evangelistic outreach group of churches, seminaries, Christian organizations that want to evangelize all of North America and beyond by 2035. It's called Ascent. Ascent. We had an ascent night about a week or so ago where the leaders for the leadership board came out and spoke about it.

And it is now, the entire thing is on YouTube, Vimeo. We have it on the homepage. So if you go to cchangechurch.org, go to the homepage, click through a couple of the banners up top. It'll be there. You can click onto it. You can listen. It's about an hour long. Tell you about all the different priorities and the different things that we're excited about and bringing the gospel to people.

It's really exciting. We had great feedback from it. So check that out. Also, if you're 18 to 23, in the college age arena there, I am running a summer study. We are going into week four. We're going over to Pastor's Notes. We do it right here on the patio. You'll see it right there. A whole bunch of us show up for Bible study and food. I do tri-tip.

So I did tri-tip this week. It is Chicken and Waffles Wednesday. So, right? It is free. And guys, come and I'll feed you and be a part of that. We've had a great time. It's actually been phenomenal. And we're going to do a little retreat at the end of the year, $99 retreat up to Big Bear. And check that out. So be a part of that if you want to come.

And if you're in the college group or if you know somebody. We had four people show up because someone told them about it. So that was cool. All right. Go to James 1, 19 through 21. We're back in the book of James. It's the Proverbs of the New Testament, as I've said. A lot of believers have not liked the book of James. They don't feel like there's enough Jesus in it.

And I feel like it's a lot about stuff you do, not about stuff you believe. And I think it brings a great balance to the scripture. Martin Luther called it a book of straw that should be burned. He didn't like it at all. But he got outruled by the history of Christianity that's had it in the Bible for a couple thousand years almost. So with that, go to verse 19.

I'm going to read it. Know this, my beloved brothers. Let every person be quick, circle quick to hear. Slow to speak. Slow to anger. You could circle slow twice there. For the anger of man, mankind, anthropos, that means men and women, does not produce the righteousness of God. Circle righteousness. Verse 21. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word which is able to save you.

We're not going to get to verse 21 this week. I found enough goodies in verse 20. I thought there was enough there that we could camp on it a little bit before we have communion. In this opinion, you've heard the term hot-headed. Quick-fuse. Somebody who is fast-tempered, ill-tempered. Someone who is quick to wrath. Vindictive. Vexed. I looked up the old words as well.

Vexed. I like me. I don't use that word enough, right? I'm so vexed today. I used to say that. People would say, what? Where are you, from 1812? Well, this is not the kind of words or phrases that you want associated with yourself, right? And as we look and we talk to James, James has started speaking at the beginning of James, chapter 1, about wisdom.

And the next thing he does after a big diatribe on wisdom is go into the things that we get upset about. And how to have some self-control. Restraint. These are other words. Restraint. To be a person who is even-tempered. Not ill-tempered. Someone who is maybe methodical in process. Someone who is meek. It uses the word meek there later. And it shows this trajectory of emotions.

Now, we're talking about anger. And a lot of people see anger as a bad thing. I want to let you know that God gave you anger for a reason. It is so you can know the things that upset God. To know the things in the world that are unjust. Where injustice is being done. Or perhaps when you should remove yourself from a situation. Anger is there to show you how to live your life.

I put later in the notes that anger is more of a road sign than it is a free pass. It's more of a road sign to give you a hint that something is happening that you need to decide what to do next. It's a crossroads. It's a road sign. But it's not a free pass to go do whatever you want. We see that. Here's the main idea today. You can't grow in righteousness.

The word righteousness is used in this passage. If you're ruled by reaction. Now, you might be saying to yourself, I don't really get angry. I never have anger. I'm an even-tempered person. I rarely get angry. That's awesome. Let me say that's not awesome. You should get angry. God gave you anger for a reason. And if there's nothing you're angry about that God is also angry about, maybe you're missing some discernment about some things in the world that God wants to send you into to change.

There's a lot of people in the world right now that this is their religion, right? Find out what they're angry about. But it's the anger of man oftentimes. And it says that the anger of man, it says later in this passage, mankind doesn't lead to righteousness. So maybe you're saying, this has nothing to do with me. I can check out right now. I can get on my Instagram.

Not have to listen to Pastor Adam. But I want to say that anger is important. You need to employ anger for a reason. And all of your anger should lead to righteous outcomes. The purpose of anger in your life is to lead towards righteousness. Not judgment. Not vindictiveness. Now, you could be a person that says, I'm even-tempered. But all of a sudden, just because you don't act out in rage.

But that doesn't mean that you're not short-tempered. Impatience is a bridesmaid of anger. Impatience oftentimes is a form of judgment. They're not, you know, impatience is that, right? They're not doing it the way you should have done it. If you would have been up 10 minutes early, we would have made it to the party on time. If on and on with these different things.

You can't grow in righteousness if you're ruled by reaction. So the first thing I want to ask you is, how's your reaction time? Is there a speed bump between your brain and your mouth? The more we grow in wisdom, the more we have the implanted word. That's part two in verse 21. Implanted in our hearts. Reading the Proverbs. Memorizing scripture. And when we implant the word, it's not just something you read as you drive by quickly.

It's not a road sign there. It is implanted in you. Then all of a sudden, you have the speed bumps in your soul, in your heart, in your mind that stop you from becoming a reactive person. I put, James doesn't just tell us to slow down. Shows us that wisdom waits. Wisdom waits. But foolishness rushes in. You've heard where fools rush in. Angels fear to tread where fools rush in.

Do you rush in? Do you immediately somebody says something with your relationship, with your kids, at work, somebody you don't know on the street? Do you rush in or do you just rush to judgment? Maybe you don't say anything, but you rush to judgment in your heart. They say that depression, oftentimes, not always, is anger turned inward. It's unresolved anger.

And it might be righteous anger. Something might have happened to you. Something might have been done to you that God is really upset about. He's sad that that happened to you, that those things happened to you. And oftentimes, there's two routes that we can go. We can take that anger and become the person who's in their car, screaming as they go down the street.

Did you see that this week? I did. I see it about every week. Somebody's yelling out of a car. I saw two people yell out of a car this week. I won't even say what they said. I can't repeat it in church. Are you that person or do you just bury it? Do you see the things that's been implanted in you is not the word of God, maybe some of it, but you've taken that injustice that has perhaps been done to you and you've just swallowed it.

You can't speak up for yourself. You don't get angry because that isn't the way it goes. And so I've heard from clinical psychologists and read that if you have depression, it's possible that it could be just anger that needs to be dealt with. And as you deal with that, that inward anger, it comes out. So you see this passage? Maybe you're cued back in now.

Maybe it's like, oh, okay, maybe I'm not a rager, but I have some things that I need to learn from this. I put wisdom. Go back to that quote. James doesn't just tell us to slow down. It shows us that wisdom waits. Foolishness rushes in. The road to unrighteousness only has one lane. Fast lane. There's only one lane on the road to unrighteousness. The road to human judgment.

It's the fast lane. It gets there quick. Go to verse 19. Know this, my beloved brothers. Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. I want to go through the trajectory of wise engagement, of using anger properly to get to a righteous destination. Whenever you're angry, there's two options for you. One, it is an anger that is righteous, that God has.

And the reason you're angry is because you know that God's angry about that, and it's a righteous anger. And if you're angry about something God's angry about, he's got it covered. And it should lead to a righteous outcome. That is the first option. The other option is you let it lead to the outcome that you want. The thing that makes you feel the best.

Look at the trajectory here of the order of engagement. It says, if you go to verse 19, that every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Do you realize that that's inverted? That is inverted. Remember Top Gun? They did the inverted dive. Remember that? Remember that? Anybody seen Top Gun, the original? You know, they said it was inverted.

He was inverted above the Russian plane. God's trajectory here is inverted. How do we usually do it? How does human emotion do it? You're quick to anger, right? You're quick to speak. You're quick to react. Slow to listen. Now, this is interesting because it is assuming that something has touched off your anger. But it doesn't start there. It says that the first thing you need to do is be quick to hear.

So, when you get angry, what the scripture says, because we know we're in an angry situation here. This is what this pericope is speaking about. It says the first thing you need to do is be quick to hear. Anger is a map that is put in front of you that is asking you, where are we on the map? The moment you become angry, oftentimes we're lost. It is a cue to you.

As if you were on stage being given a cue from someone behind the curtain or behind the side that is saying, be quick to listen because you're going to need some wisdom to deal with this situation. The moment the scripture says, James says, when you get angry, you need to start listening. Who does that? You do that? If you do that, you're a better person than me.

I do not do that. I get upset. I get angry. I'm not a rager. I've had, I think, three moments of rage since I've been married. One was before I was married. Carrie and I got on an upsetness at the beach, and I took my surfboard. I was at the beach, and I threw my surfboard on the sand. I threw it. That was one. Ten years ago, I had a peach in my hand, and I got angry, and I threw the peach at the wall.

Right? Rage, right? That was like ten years later. That was my second one. I remember the third one. You know what the problem is? Peaches splatter. For the next decade in that house, I'd find little pieces of peaches reminding me of my brokenness. I'd be like, oh, there's that little piece of dry peach again. Mm, amazing. You that person? Maybe you are that person.

Maybe you're a rager, right? No one wants to be in relationship with a rager, right? And if you have an anger issue, if you're that person, because everybody takes this scripture and applies it just to that person. That's just one of the ways to be angry. But I will say that if you are in touch with your anger, you're probably closer to getting your anger healed than someone that's buried it that doesn't know they exist.

You see, I realized during a situation about five years ago when some things changed in my life that I had more anger than I thought. I'm not a rager. Granted, I've thrown the peach and I threw the surfboard. I get it. Guilty, right? But if you've been around me for 10 years, I'm not a rager. But I am a frustrator. I don't know about you. My face, I just, I get super frustrated.

It's a form of anger and it's also a form of judgment that we see that anger moves to judgment. Look what it says. Slow to, quick to hear. So all of a sudden, when you have anger, immediately when there's anger, the first thing you should do is say, that's a cue. What's happening? What's this person thinking? What just happened? Now, obviously, if sometimes you have anger for the right reason and in an emergency situation, you need to react.

I'm not speaking about that moment, so to speak. But what is happening? The next is slow to speak. Not speak, slow. Are you a slow to speak person? I'm not saying a never speak person because some of us are angry and we just never say it. Don't feel worthy enough to say it. Don't think we can. We just bury it, bury it, bury it. It says slow to speak.

It doesn't say don't speak, which means words are a part of the outcome of your anger. But you've got to get there slowly. And then the next one is slow to anger. Now, if you were to say to people, should Christians be angry? What would most people say? No. That's not what James says. James says, get there slowly. Jesus, remember, he was angry, righteous indignation.

He braids a whip. I don't know. I've never braided a whip. I don't know how long it takes to braid a whip. Did he have to go buy the letter? Did he kill the cow and tan the cow first? I don't know. But he braided a whip. He took his time. And then not only did he speak, he reacted. But it was different than our reaction because when Jesus reacts, it's always a perfect righteousness and a perfect judgment of the situation.

I wonder what percentage of the time our anger is actually attached to a proper judgment of God. I mean, if you had a scale. Like, let's say you're angry all the time. How many out of ten, it's like, oh, God's angry about that too. That's something that really bothers him. He's upset that that happened to me or he's upset that that's happening in the world.

How much of our anger is actually attached to something that God cares about and that God's angry about? I want to encourage you to only be angry about the things that God is angry about. If you're angry about a bunch of stuff that God is not angry about, and the only way to know what actually angers God is to read the scripture to know the things that actually anger him, then you're wasting your time.

Because there's nothing that we can add to his anger. He's already angry enough about the things that happen in the world. He had an answer for that too. I put anger as an emotional road sign, not a permission slip. The word in the Greek there, anger, is pronounced arge. And the definition means indignation. When he uses that word, it's an indignation with a justice component.

Most anger is an indignation. Now, not all of it. Sometimes I'm angry, I burn my toast, right? I don't like burning toast. I get angry, you know? It's not indignation. I'm not judging the toaster. It's just that I set it to six, and I usually set it at four. I just want my toast to go quicker, but it's a different question, different story. It means that there's an indignation.

Usually when you're angry, there's a judgment attached to it. They did this to me. They shouldn't have done this to me. They ran the light. I got to the light first, whatever it is. You don't have to go too far down YouTube to see the road rage videos where this happens. But it is an injustice. It is a perceived, it is an annoyance that is perceived as unfair treatment or injustice, a moral anger.

I would say judgment is the bridesmaid of anger. What happens is when you have anger, it immediately, if you do not do what the scripture says here, slow, take your time. God, are you angry about this? God, I'm angry because you're angry. God, will you be the one who fixes this situation? I'm going to. I'm giving you my anger. I'm asking that you be the one that deals with this person.

Or do you want me to be an instrument of your justice in an unjust place? So maybe you're angry about conditions in Africa. So you're going to go and build some homes. You're going to go get some water. Some injustices that are happening in our country. Those are the kind of things that we want to use our anger for. But when we don't do that, we become a judge ourselves.

Now, you know the term people always say is don't judge. Christians, you shouldn't judge. You shouldn't judge. Well, that's actually true. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't understand the judgments of God and agree with them. When people, the whole sexual revolution thing was happening 15 years ago, 10 years ago, 2004, 5, 9. And they say don't judge, don't judge, don't judge.

And people were judging. Judging is when you come up with something. You make it up. You come up with a decision. You come up with a jury. You're the jury. You're the judge. You make your decision. That's called judgment. Understanding God's righteous judgments and being in agreement with what he said is not you being judgmental. It's you being in agreement to what God has said.

So you can say don't judge. I don't. But I understand God's righteous judgments. And I live according to them because they are truth. And so one of the things that anger will cause you to do is put you in the seat of judgment. And it feels good, doesn't it? That's why anger feels good. Anger is a motivator. Few things are motivated or set on fire better than by using anger.

It's hard to start a revolution with love. Now revivals are revolutions of love that actually are revivals. The difference between revival and revolution is the best way to start a revolution is to get people angry. Because angry is a motivator. Angry is the thing that your entire algorithm is pretty much based on in regard to the news, in regard to the clickbait, in regard to the headlines.

It is meant to get a reaction because we are a carnal people and we are more often drawn to the seat of judgment. Isn't that what it is? You don't have to go online too much until you're just judgy, right? It just draws you into that place. It's meant to drive in that place because it drives engagement. But the opposite of that is forgiveness. And so what happens is one of the reasons why he's saying be slow is because you actually need some time to sift your anger through the word of God, through wise counsel, through time.

Sometimes you ever find out you're less angry than you were? I was, my wife, two days ago, I put the dog, took the dog to the beach, sand all over the car. It's difficult of me, okay? Comes out, you know, sand a car. I said, we should get a vacuum for that. She goes, I did get a vacuum. It's in the back. I showed it to you, remember? I'm like, oh, yes.

I was, yes, I do remember. And that was even worse that I didn't remember that she had already gotten the vacuum and I told her to get a vacuum for the car. And I threw the peach, okay? So I'm just being real right now. And so she goes away and I'm thinking, oh, she's, oh, man, she's going to be bummed all day. She's going to be home and be upset.

She gets home. She didn't remember it. And I was all day. I'm like, oh, I bummed her out. Ah, bummer, you know? Sometimes time itself just lets things go away. And some things aren't all that important. But it does put you in a place of judgment. Are you judgy? Are you constantly judging people? I did it. I went to Marine Street. There was 10,000 kids at Marine Street the other day.

I have a picture of it. It's the craziest thing you've ever seen. The entire beach, there's no place to sit. Just kids like this. 10,000 of them. It's unbelievable. They closed the beach down. And I walked there afterwards and it was just trash yesterday. Trash. I was judgy. These kids. Crazy kids. And I was so mad. It's going to go in the ocean. You know?

All of a sudden I realized, why don't you just go down there with a bag and pick some stuff up and shut up? You know? As opposed to just all of a sudden start judging every kid who's dropping a beer can. That's not my job. If that makes sense. And so there's this thing where we immediately start judging. Now the thing is, what's really interesting, go to verse 20 in the end.

For the anger of God does not produce the righteousness, the anger of man, excuse me, does not produce the righteousness of God. The anger of man. Which means the anger that you're supposed to have or to engage into is an anger that God justifies through the truth of his word. And so it says it doesn't produce righteousness. But you can produce righteousness when we do things through God's ways and when we take responsibility.

And not only do that, but follow his actions to right wrong situations. It could be a relationship. It could be whatever it is. I want to read out of Romans because God had an answer to this. I want you to know that God has wrath. You've heard the sermon, sinners in the hands of an angry God. Maybe you've heard that before. And there's this sense that God is really mad.

And I want you to know God is really mad. He's mad at sin. He's mad at the devil. He's mad at children that have been abused. He's mad at all, every single sin that ever happened. And he's so mad, he wants to destroy the entire world. The Bible says that. But he had an answer to that. Because mercy triumphs judgment, which I said is a bridesmaid of anger.

So when God was mad, he had a plan. And the plan of God, because his anger has to be dealt with. Because if God were just to let sin go, oh, forget it. It's all good. No problem. It's all good. I'll wash my hands of it. It would mean that he wouldn't be a just God. That anger had to be dealt with. That wrath had to be dealt with. And there's only one way to deal with it.

By casting us all into hell. No. By sending his son as a perfect sacrifice. That his anger might be atoned for on the cross. So that the wrath would be removed from us. Go to Romans 1.18. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness. All unrighteousness. Who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. That's the wrath of God I was just talking about.

But our anger needs to pass through the filter of Jesus' work on the cross. Go to Isaiah. And you'll see it in the notes there. 53, 5, and 6. And this is the plan for God's anger. Who is slow to speak. Thank God he is slow. Right? Imagine how you would have handled the garden situation. Really? I gave you the whole garden? One tree? Really? You know what?

Fireballs. Done. Slow. Thousands of years. Waiting. Injustice after injustice. Allowing things to happen so he could work out his righteous plan. Isaiah 53. This was God's plan for his anger. And he has a righteous reason to be angry. But he was pierced for our transgressions. He, that's Jesus, was crushed for our iniquities. Upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace.

And with his wounds we are healed. All we have like, all we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned everyone to his own way. And the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. When you get angry, the best place to start, and one of the reasons to be slow, is to say, God, I am unrighteous. I probably don't have good judgment here. Would you show me your judgment?

And then, remember the wisdom piece, would you show me how to deal with this? Some of you have been treated very unjustly. Some of you have been abused. Some of you have gone through horrible situations. Have things said to you. Have things done to you that have been unjust. Have been falsely accused. And you are so angry about it. And you have a right to be angry about it.

If God's angry about it. And I want to say that God is angry about it. But you know what his answer was often? And this doesn't mean that people shouldn't go to jail. And there shouldn't be consequences for things. There should. There are consequences. You can be forgiven and still go do your time in jail. Okay? There are consequences. And there needs to be consequences.

So I'm not saying that. But when we think about that, we need to realize that he had an answer to that. And the answer is forgiveness. And one of the best ways to deal with your anger, because this is how God, this is the example that he gave through his son on the cross, is forgiveness. This entire passage, this is kind of a sneak ending, goes back to forgiveness.

One of the best ways to deal with your anger is to forgive people. That doesn't mean some things need to be dealt with. Okay? If something needs to be dealt with, there's a legal situation, deal with it. Okay? I'm telling you to deal with it. It needs to be dealt with. But the first place to start is forgiveness, because anger is a cancer. I have literally seen people die because of anger.

I had a guy one time, he was so angry. I knew him. Wasn't a believer. He was so angry. Yell out the street from his house at people walking. I was just so angry. And I felt like I just, I don't know if it was prayer or whatever, I just thought, anger is going to kill that guy soon. I just felt it. And within six months, he was dead. Now, I'm not saying it was true or whatever.

I just had this really strong sense that that's going to kill him. I'm not saying it was true. It was just an odd coincidence to me, because it felt really strong. I could see it. I could see it was killing him. And some of you, it's killing you. You might not be a rager. You might not be quiet. But you never speak up for yourself. You don't have a voice.

You need to speak up. You need to go, and you need to look at it. And it's really scary. But God is there, and the love of Jesus is there. There's two practical things I want to have to take away. One, identify your anger and use it as a road sign, not a permission slip. This is a road sign to righteousness. Because the anger of God leads to righteousness.

Your anger is always an opportunity, the anger you experience, to lead to righteousness. One, to go to God and say, you know what? I was angry for the wrong reason. I had no right to be angry. I'm a hypocrite. I do that myself. That leads to righteousness. You've confessed to God. You've given him truth. You've humbled yourself. You've asked forgiveness.

That leads to righteousness, right? Every time you have the opportunity to be angry, it can lead to righteousness. Forgiving the person who injured you. Now, that might take time. Not just saying, oh, I forgive you. That might take time. It might take to your deathbed. I've prayed with people that forgave their fathers on their deathbed, but they didn't.

It takes time. It's a long journey. And I understand this is difficult. And our skills classes is one tool that you can use here at this church to deal with those things. If this is touching something today. And then the final one is this. Become aware of the just causes that anger God. Are you even aware of what makes God angry? Or is the only thing that makes you angry the things that you see on Facebook or in the news or in the headlines?

Everything you see, you're just angry about this or this person. That's what's happening in our world right now. Why do you see so much unrighteousness in the world? Because the anger of man, which we're being fueled by anger right now. I don't know if you understand. Our society for the last, I don't know, 15 years is being fueled by anger. And the anger of man leads to unrighteousness.

So don't be surprised when you see anger and judgment followed by unrighteousness in the world. And all of a sudden unrighteousness goes through the roof. Because it is the result of anger and judgment. You see that right there. And so that's what I want to ask you. One, is there anything? And I thought about this myself. It had been a while since I'd been really angry about something that God was probably crying about.

Like there's some causes in the world that I should be angry about. But then I have to deal with them in a righteous way. And so I want to challenge you. The other thing is once you deal with your anger, I want you to go to God and say, God, what bothers you in this world? What bothers you? I have a friend that homelessness in Africa bothers him.

And so he's done something about it. Some of our team is going to Africa to the place, to that place in Malawi. He went to Malawi. He saw it 25 years ago. And he said, it bothers me. And just recently I was able to be a part of a team of people that built a house for a family. And I got a picture of the family with this house. And I was like, yeah.

Because people without homes, as other people feast, I think it makes God angry. I think it bothers him. Not that there's any problem with feasting. But if we're just feasting all the time and we're just angry about the things we're angry about and the political things we're angry about and da, da, da, da, da. But we're not looking at God and, God, what are you angry about?

Where do you want me to change the world? You see, anger is a road sign to righteousness where you go in and change the world. Go change the world. Find one thing in San Diego that you think God's upset about and go fix it with the word of God and prayer and some other Christians. Go fix it. You don't have to go protest it. Go fix it. Go and bring the kingdom of God to it.

Amen? Let's stand if you would. Joe is going to lead us in communion. Powerful word, Pastor Adam. Thanks for that meditation and preaching. If the helpers for communion can come, we are a family of God. And, you know, Pastor Adam was talking about being slow to speak, slow to become angry. And God speaks to us. Jesus speaks to his community of 12 before he went to the cross to die for the sins of the world, for whoever will believe.

And he speaks visually when we take communion together. He speaks communally because we're supposed to do it together as a family. And he speaks historically throughout all time, throughout all generations. He says, do this in remembrance of me. If you are a believer in Jesus, that he died for your sins. And if you put your faith in him, you will be reconciled back to the Father.

This meal is for you. If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, we have a prayer team that will pray for you at the end. Let me read Jesus' words. The Lord Jesus, on the night of his arrest, he took bread. And after giving thanks to God, he broke it. And he gave it to his disciples, saying, take and eat. This is my body given for you.

Do this in remembrance of me. And in the same way, he took the cup, saying, this cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood, shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. And whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the saving death of the risen Lord until he comes. God is so good.

His forgiveness and his anger were poured out on his son, so they will not be poured out on you. This is a family meal. If you believe, we ask you to come up. If you're on this side, take the elements. Go back and sit down and wait. Do your work with the Lord. And then I'll read the words again, and we'll take together. So if you want to remember Lord Jesus, come up and partake.

How deep the Father's love for us. How vast beyond all measure. That he should give his only son to make a wretch his treasure. How great the pain of searing off. The Father turns his face away. As wounds which mar the chosen one. Bring many sons to glory. Behold the man upon the cross. My son upon his shoulders. Ashamed I hear my mocking voice. Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held him there. Until it was accomplished. His dying breath has brought me life. I know that it is finished. I know I have. No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my hope His wounds have paid my ransom But this I know with all my hope I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my hope I know with all my hope I know with all my hope I know with all my hope I know with all my hope I know with all my hope I know with all my hope This is a family meal for those who put their personal faith in the Lord Jesus And He says, take and eat This is my body given for you Do this in remembrance of me If you want to remember Jesus If He is sacred and important to you Let us eat together And this cup This blood It was shed for you For the forgiveness of sins Whenever you drink it Do this in remembrance of me If you believe that your sins have been forgiven Because of Jesus' perfect sacrifice on the cross Let us drink together Gracious God May we who have received this sacrament Live in the unity of your Holy Spirit That we may show forth your gifts to all the world We ask in the name of Jesus Christ And all God's people said Let us rise to recite the Lord's Prayer together And then Pastor Adam will give a blessing Our Father Who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come Thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who have trespassed against us And lead us not in temptation But deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom And the power And the glory forever Amen Amen Amen Hey so there's two parts of that sermon One is personal right If you have some things you want to work on Or look into We have skills classes here They'll start again in the fall And you can be a part of that For men and women And also for married couples And they go over these different issues These deep seated issues Is one of them Tons of people are taking them Helps you get emotionally healthy and whole The other is to do something in the world That makes a difference To change the world Through God's righteous anger right So before I bless you I want you to know we had a prayer answered The ice cream machine is working for soft serve And we have Oreo cookies on it as well So if you extend your hand I want to bless you all Lord I thank you for this congregation I love this church I love this place you've been for a hundred years And you're growing it And it's just such an amazing group of energetic believers That want to pursue you Chase after you Lord God And how you've blessed us Bless them now And if the Holy Spirit Has just brought some stuff up Lord God That might be hard to deal with Or whatever it is God Just show up gentle You're such a gentle surgeon Lord God As you change us And then also put things on their mind Even right now As people are here God Just show them Hey I'd love you to make a difference Here in the world for me Because this thing bothers me But I want to bring my love there So we bless you We send you out now And God We also pray for this country That you would bless it On this incredible 4th of July weekend And that you'd bless all of our congressmen And president And all the people that are in government We pray for them No matter if we agree with them or not sometimes But we pray for them And we pray for the revival of love in this country In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Amen We love you If you need prayer come forward And I know the people that I do I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be I can do the thing to be t I can do the thing to be p j j s I can do the thing to be
