Scripture: Proverbs 4:18-27
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Pastor Adam takes that image literally and turns it into a dimmer switch. Every right decision bumps the light up; every dimmed one leaves you less able to see what is coming, including the cliff.
He pauses on the definition first. Righteousness as a verb means acting in accordance with divine or moral law — not doing it perfectly, but knowing the right thing and trying to do it. Righteousness as a state, being free from guilt, is never something you achieve on your own.
Three instructions from Proverbs 4. Choose righteousness, and the light comes up. Guard your heart, because it is the wellspring and a well can be fouled. Make level paths for your feet, and take only ways that are firm.
The illustration is a climb up Snowdon that Adam abandoned partway for a cup of tea while his wife summited into visibility of about four feet — and the alternative route, scrambling up loose slate, which the cool people take and he will not.
He closes by undercutting his own series. The Greeks wanted wisdom; Christ is our wisdom. This is a religion of faith, not of wisdom.
Key topics:
- Righteousness as a dimmer switch on the path ahead
- Guard your heart — the wellspring can be fouled
- Christ is our wisdom: a religion of faith, not of wisdom

So for today's scripture reading is from Proverbs 4:18 to 27.
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the Way of the Wicked is like deep Darkness. They do not know what makes them stumble. My son pay attention to what I say. Listen closely to my words do not let them out of your sight. Keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them in health to a man's whole body.
Above All Else guard your heart for it is the Wellspring of life. Put away perversity from your mouth. Keep corrupt talk from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left. Keep your foot from Evil the word of the Lord right on well, hey, if you have your Bibles open them up to Proverbs and we're in Proverbs darn.
I didn't put the chapter on there. And I did say where the chapter was. We're in Proverbs. It's on your scripture and I forgot there are no matter. In fact, let me start this over again. There are no chapters in Proverbs. As I said last week. They're just called Proverbs and check out your I forgot which proverb this was because I didn't put it in the notes and I was supposed to fix that.
4:18 see we work together and I like that you guys gave me an assist right there. Let's see if I can dunk it. Alright, I'm gonna start this with a prayer. Let's get going Lord. We just want to thank you for your goodness your grace. Bless you for Proverbs, four eighteen and be with us today as we hear from you Jesus name. Amen, I got my favorite text of the year so far. It's years early. It's an early year, but I got my favorite text.
Met somebody at a fundraiser in the fall just doing some cool stuff in San Diego and I said well we should get together after the new year. So we you know, we gave each other text numbers and To think about it then about a week ago. I said, hey, I'm gonna be down in your area. Let's connect. You know, are you are you free for that coffee? We were talking about no answer and it's like one day two day and then you're thinking like, oh did I like him more than he liked me? You know what? I mean like that kind of thing.
um He's ghosting me, you know, and I'm like, oh, you know and then I get a text back. Hey, bro, sorry to so long to get back to you. I'm in Peru getting ready to Summit on a mountain and getting ready to climb this mountain. We might Summit tomorrow we might summon the next day. I might be back on Friday. It might be next week. Love to get together with you. I'm like, that's so good. I'm what a cool text.
Right? First text of the Year reason I bring that up is because each of us started this year on a journey, right? Got places you want to go you got paths you want to take and as we look at Proverbs 4A Forge proverb four, we're gonna find a proverb that talks about how to create a path to where you are going. It doesn't talk so much about the destination. Right? We do a lot of destination focus. It actually talks about how you make a path how you get a path and how you create a path and in the making of the path.
You find the destination really interesting in the making of the path. You find the destination. Remember when Abraham took off in Genesis God said to Abraham. Hey, I want you to go to the place. I'm going to show you and that's really interesting. He doesn't say go to this place. I'm gonna show it to you. I'm gonna reveal it in the going and in The Knowing go to verse 18 at the very beginning.
It says the path. Of the righteous circle the word righteous. We're gonna look at righteous. as a verb and a noun is like the first gleam of dawn shining ever brighter to the full day of light. And so we see this path. We're talking about path walking and it starts here in verse 18 speaking about having light for your path super important the key word. There is righteous.
What does it mean to be righteous the Bible has this weird way of saying do righteous things and then it says no one can be righteous. What's happening? Where why that juxtaposition? What does God mean? How do we attain the noun? Can we attain the noun of the righteous? And is it even possible to do righteous acts which is the verb and so we're going to be looking at both of those righteousness.
Works as a GPS for your path righteousness right making right decisions, but the first thing I want to say you're going to see it box there. My daughter had finals this week. It was Finals over at La Jolla High School a lot of studying and one of the cool things. She's in an AP History Class, which is legit. Like I'm it's a great book, but I'm looking at I'm like, this is like hard. I love history. It is Hardcore and it's voluminous the amount that they're doing.
And her friend took the test first really good student got a 58 now. I was like 58 this girl is like a straight A student and she was happy. She got the 58 and why because it's graded on the curb because the highest grade was a 78 or something like a 72 or something like that. So students were shooting for an F on the test. Okay, because that was gonna get you over the hump and you could keep your a and my daughter figured out she could get a 52 on the test and still get away with an a righteousness It's not great on a curve.
It's not and I find that righteousness never needs to be justified. Righteousness means when you're filling out that mortgage thing and it's like well, I'm not really going to live in the house. But I'm Gonna Save money if I say I'm living on the house in the house and it's my primary residence and I do drive by once a month. So that's not if you have to start doing things in your life rationalizing. You're you're not it's you're not probably living in in righteousness Holiness and righteousness never needs to be rationalized because they're right and so righteousness is not graded on a curve.
And so the thing that you want to do is hold up God's word like a mirror. And then ask yourself in the verb is this a righteous thing to do is it right? Let's take righteousness. This this metaphoric term. It's not metaphoric. But this metaphysical term of what does it mean? What does it mean in the heavens? What does it mean in my life? And let's just break it down to doing what's right. Now we live in a culture that is believes less and less that there is a right and a wrong.
There are absolutes and so everything's created on a curve and the curve is what do you want to do? What do you think? What is your truth? And that's the curve that's not biblical truth. And it's not what the Bible says. So if you want to be a person that follows the Bible you're gonna have to understand that God has some definite absolutes when it comes to doing what is right.
I pulled out the definition as pastors do out of one of the dictionaries and it gave two the noun in the verb definition for righteousness or righteous. Number one. Acting in accordant in accordance with Divine or moral law. Okay. That doesn't mean you can do it right you can do it 100% with a perfect motive and when you do a good thing that you maybe don't do something incorrect along the way because no one's perfect.
But it means that you understand what the right thing is to do and you try to do it. So when that test comes and you can look over at your friend's test or you can do that one little thing that would give you a little bit of an advantage but it wouldn't quite be right you don't do that. And while you still, you know, even though that you thought of doing it, maybe you're not perfect because you thought of doing it you tried to do the right thing. And so that is the verb When God says about doing righteousness the verb it means that we're stepping in to doing right things. So acting in accordance with Divine or moral law.
The second is being free from guilt or sin that you're completely righteous. What is interesting is we'll see here in a moment. Is that righteousness can never be attained? And that's why Jesus died on the cross. That's the gospel. We'll be getting into the gospel again after Easter. But the gospel says that because we could never become perfect because we could never attain the standard of God that standard need to be needed to be met for us in a substitutionary way where we can take on the work of Christ. And that's what the cross does and what the Bible was basically all about. It comes down to Jesus a toning for your sin that's called the doctrine of atonement and God says that if we just believe in faith, if we just believe in Jesus that he did that by believing it is imputed to you as righteousness. That's how we become righteous. So we'll look at those two things Divine or moral law now, let's remember that proverbs.
Was written a couple thousand years 1,500 to a 2000 years before 1500 years before Jesus was born. So when they are talking about being righteous, they're talking about a way of living. They were talking about following a law and God had given them a law a rule book to follow one of the reasons he gave them the rule book one was to keep them safe and say if you do the rules, it's it's a design manual. I designed you a certain way. And if you live according to it, you're going to have a prosperous life, but the second is to show Romans says this that it's impossible to try to win Merit to become a good person good enough you do enough right things according to the law that you become a person that can go to God and say hey I crushed it. I mean, seriously, I crash that you should have seen all the you know, all the giving I did. I'm up those floors at that Catholic Church for years. I mean, you know, I'm here the Bible says that that is impossible, but we still do righteous acts.
So I wrote this that right you'll see in your notes righteousness. Then as we Define it before we get quickly into the scripture here righteousness is a free gift. That's a free gift that Jesus gave us on the cross. That is unattainable on our own. clear that is a clear scriptural truth on the gospel, but Circle but that's the conjunction conjunction. What's its function? It is also a lifestyle. We are called to live does it mean that you can live? It doesn't mean that you're supposed to make perfect decisions. No, it means you try to understand what the law the right thing to do is and you try your best to do it. So it's a noun you become righteous through what Jesus did we become the righteous because of what he did but we also try to do righteous things and that is the balance that we're finding. Now as you look in Proverbs, once again, let's get back to this pathmaking idea this idea.
This is a if you as you read these verses from 18 to 27 it, you know, it's really metaphorically talking about the Journey of Life The Journey that you are on I want I want to read I want to repeat what I said at the beginning that in following Christ. He wants Faith he wants you to know how to live in the moment more than he wants you to know the destination because we don't serve a god of Destin.
Questions other than the destination of knowing him and spending eternity with him. We serve a God who wants you to be saved by faith. You're not saved by making the right decision your saved by believing in something that it can be is unseen. As Roman said, excuse me, as Hebrews says that faith is something that can't be seen. It's a substance that cannot be is not tangible. And so it is uncangible. Look at Romans 3:10.
As it is written. There is no one who is righteous. All right, there it is again. Not even one. There's no one who understands no one who seeks God all have turned away. They've all together become worthless. And there was no one who does good. Not even good won't you read that like, oh, you know where I even start. I love that verse because I don't look at it. Like I'm just you know, just a rack I look at it like God, I need your help and you love me so much that you want to take all this Brokenness of my life all the pieces all the rubble of my life and we build it into something Majestic through you the more you get in touch with that. I'm not a worthless person because of that but that all my worth comes from what Jesus did the easier it is to live and easier it is actually to do those righteous actions because it's coming from a place of Faith every time you step out to do something. Where is it coming from is it you're putting a check on the on the list of something you've done and you can say hey I've done that. I'm a good person or is it? Hey, I believe in Jesus. I'm doing this for Jesus and Every Act of righteousness is an act of faith and belief. Next one is I put I put this that it's unattainable. It's the first thing I said and then the next one in Romans 10:10 says for with the heart a person believe Resulting what in righteousness. That's the gospel. I just talked about and with the mouth. He she confesses resulting in Salvation that salvation does not come from Works. We're not gonna throw the baby out with the bathwater. We're going to talk about how to make that path this summer. We went to Wales.
My wife and I did a 20 something year anniversary. The reason I say that is because we celebrated our 20 year anniversary and our 17th anniversary. Like why wait so it's like let's do a big 20th anniversary, but it's only 17. So what so Got married in 97. So I think it was 25 and we went to snowdonia which is in Wales in and the UK.
And cerdonia the highest peak in all of the UK is there I want to show a picture of it. This is snowdonia this picture makes it look so high it literally looks like you know, like, you know, K1 or something in this pictures. I think it's only like 2500 feet high and it's right at sea level. About nine hours and my wife and I start, you know walking up. We're gonna Summit that today we're so excited. We're right at the base we get there. We're excited and it's getting close to raining and it's you can't see the top because it's super Misty and we're on our way up and about halfway through that English breakfast tea. I'm just tasting it. You know what I mean? And I know that I'm already about three four hours up or excuse me two hours up and it's gonna take two hours down. I'm like listen. This has been a great hike I'm gonna tap back to the you know, and she's I'm going I'm going so my wife ends up summiting this path one of the things that she found out and I couldn't get the videos when she got to the top of the path. She couldn't see where she was going. So she's at the very top she makes it all the way up. It's this massive, you know, he'll and there's a picture of her she's got a video and literally it's like a forfeit visibility like, you know, I mean, like that's one of the reasons I didn't go like I'm gonna get up there and be like look around in the Mist so she's got this picture with no visibility. We're gonna see that in that first picture in First thing that we talk about is choosing righteousness. And as we're going to see in verse 18 the path of the righteous is like the first gleam of the Dawn and it gets brighter and brighter. So when you walk in righteousness, it's gonna be easier to see where you're going. So choose righteousness. Are you choosing righteousness every time we come to a decision in our life not every time but often there's a righteous decision and then there's something that is maybe not so righteous and so we can determine that the cool thing is is as you determine and make the right decisions, you're past gonna get brighter you're gonna know where to go because you're gonna be able to see more number two guard your heart which is a strange thing to find in the Bible, right?
Guard your heart. Why would you do that? No, we won't have Open Hearts want to be open? And what does it mean by that? So number one choose righteousness. What are you choosing? Number? Two guard your heart and number three. I love this one make level paths for your feet means you are a pathmaker. Now, we saw last week where it says that if you commit your plans to God, he will cause them to succeed and make your paths straight. So what is if you want to picture a till imagine that you have a little tiller and you're in front with tilling a straight path as best we can this little tiny tiller and you're like, I'm gonna make a straight path but then behind you is God like in this Roto tractor, you know what I mean? He's got like this massive tiller in the front and you're like making this little path. He's like Are you know we make a straight path through our decisions and when we do that God's like hey, I got this. Let's just Furrow that even deeper. Let's make that path even straighter.
We don't want to take non-secute. We don't want to take circuitous routes to the destination. We're going and the more we choose unrighteousness the longer it takes to get there. I talked last week about how you know my daughter when we walk sometimes she tends to push to the right as we walk. You know, I don't know if you have a walker like that in your life you're walking with them and they tend to walk and push you to the right as your next thing you're on, you know, you're stepping off the path and the whole thing. You're on your way to Del Mar you end up in El Cajon? No shade on El Cajon.
I grew up in La Mesa. El Cajon. So those are three things one choose righteousness guard your heart make level paths for your feet. Let's talk about this path making righteousness sheds light on your path go to verse 18 Again. the path we're on a path of the righteous Circle righteous is like what is like what well It's like the first claim of dawn.
That's pretty good. Right? It's got some light on it better than hiking at night. Okay, better than hiking when you get that cloud. You're the top of snowdonia and you spent Five hours to get to the top. You can't take a picture but nonetheless drinking my tea. Hey way to go wife. I was at Stoke. I'm proud of you. I was way better than I could do the first claim of dawn, but let's go the next one as your righteous. It shines ever brighter. So here there's a proverbial metaphor that equates righteousness.
To having a path that is increases increasingly and progressively more well-lit. It means every time you make a decision it progressively gets brighter. Which sometimes in my decision making I have this sense of I make a decision and then it's back to nighttime again, and I get a little bit of light and then it's back to night time again.
What this is saying is you can stack your decision like over and over again make the right decision make the right decision. Do The Godly thing do what the biblical thing is and it progressively gets brighter so that when you're walking it's no longer. Oh, it's Sunrise again. Every single time you make a decision. It's the light of day like continue to go on what it says here. It says in verse 18 shining ever brighter.
To the full light of the day. So it's like a first gleam of the Dawn but it doesn't stay at the dawn. It says it actually becomes brighter until it's the full light of day when you're hiking in light is not only cleansing cleansing. It is purifying. It's an antiseptic. They say it's one of the best antiseptics. But when it comes to path walking if you want to know where you're going.
This scripture doesn't say you'll know the destination. But it basically it does say that you'll know where you are along the way and that you'll understand where you are because you'll be able to see everything around you. They say one of the the most difficult times to drive is not at night. It's in the the midst as it's getting darker as the eye is trying to focus the eye does the some of the worst focusing in between bright and dark like it's easier to drive at night than it is to drive it Dusk. And so what we see here is God is not abandoning you to make decisions in the darkness or in the or in the the shallow shadowlands of the light of the morning, but he's actually making it brighter and how does it get brighter?
How do you increase the light of your life by making right decision? That's up to you. Remember once again Proverbs is low hanging fruit. It's very easy. It's an if then process in so many ways and I don't know if you've had these I put some new lights in my house. Actually, I changed them out and we have a dimmer switch. Right and I'm just I love blasting it. You know, we we put new lights in our house and I we have the can lights which I've always wanted. Those are so cool and the guys like do you want for them? Like no eight? I you know, I did I want to be like, I'm a museum my wife's like you this is so overstimulating. Can you turn the lights up like no, I just love the light.
righteous decisions righteous decisions. Are you on that dimmer switch? When you make a decision, you know, you're thinking that's not the right decision not right thing for you. Just dim it down a little bit. You're not going to know where you are as well. You're not gonna be able to see things coming in the future. You're not going to see you know, the cliff at the end. But when you make right decisions, what are you doing? You're bumping that thing up over and over again until you're walking in the fullness of light. I believe through this scripture and through doing these things that you can get to a place where you're pretty much know where you are feel like you're standing in light in the revelation of God on a regular basis not meaning that there aren't situations that you won't know but we see that you're the proverbial metaphor equates righteousness.
That's the verb to having a path that is increasably and progressively more. Well lit Next one is verse 23 this is that one that every time we read these scriptures, there's like this one verse like what is that doing in there? Because we're talking about paths and then all of a sudden it talks about hearts. But it mentions hearts and a Wellspring. Now, if you've ever done hiking you want to have a place where you can feel your water up, right? And so we see that there is a spring along the path. So once again the Proverbs is using this metaphor where you're going and that spring is the thing that gives you sustenance that thing that that you stop alongside you put your feet up on the trail and you're able to be refreshed by that. What is the refreshing element that comes along your path?
And do you feel that along the path that you're walking recently or the last six months or whatever it would be that there are little weigh stations along the way where you are being refreshed or do you feel like man, I've been to this path for a long time and there has been no refreshment. Sometimes God allows us to be in Seasons like that for sure.
But what I have found for my life is is the Lion's Share of the time. It's I'm not being refreshed because I'm not doing the things that bring me refreshment. I'm putting my mind and my heart in the places. They shouldn't be and all of a sudden it that well gets dried up. Let's look at that verse right there in verse 23. above all else now above all Circle all Not the word above some of the stuff above a few little things that says above all.
All this proverb and let's just take it in proverb four here. Above all of it. There's a lot of good stuff in there, but above it all super important. guard your heart why? Because your heart is a Wellspring of life. Your heart is the filter for your mind your heart is where you make your decisions from out of the heart the mouth overflows over and over again. It is the heart that drives us we are saved because we don't not because we believe in our mind the scripture says although the mind of Christ is important. We are saved because we believe where in our hearts there's been studies recently where they show that some of the newer the same neurotransmitters that you have in the mind are now found in the heart means that the article I saw was that the heart can actually think the heart can actually believe the heart is so important. Are you guarding your heart?
You know, if we're spending a ton of time in the world of the political landscape of our world and thinking and reading the Articles or whatever it is. It can be so toxic it can be so poisonous the certain shows that we just you know, what you watch this show or you listen to that podcast and you don't know it but the entire time the Wellspring of your life.
Is being poisoned. Let me just read that verse again. It's really really important. It says above all else guard your heart for what it is a Wellspring. of life I put here then if that's true, then the opposite of that would be an unguarded heart. I mean you just let anything in any thought anything in. Is a poisoned well an unguardened heart then is a poisoned well.
The thing is is we need to guard our hearts. I'm gonna tell a little story. I've told this story before about 15 years ago and I was really into like like war movies and stuff. Like that's right 20 years ago and married and my wife and I were taking a walk and I was watching a lot of violent stuff just movies that were violent and you know stuff I won't go into modern one. So you can just remember what that is for you. We were walking down the street and there was this kid on a skateboard and he was skating little kid like 10 15 years 10 years old, maybe 12 and he all these off the curb into the street and I see a car coming.
And he's gonna get hit by a car. I'm a half a block away. And as this car turns around I had enough time to tap my wife on the shoulder and say hey, what's this? That's not the thing to do in that situation the thing to do is hey, stop stop scream yell scream. A kid did not get hit car. Stop car went around. and I looked at my I stopped and I thought What what happened in my life that I got to that point?
That's 20 years ago. Watch this. I mean, I wouldn't say I'm a shame with myself or whatever. It was. I didn't want to put a moral value on it. I just know that I didn't want that my heart to become hardened. To whatever happened and I made it as a point. I'm letting weight. I'm I have an unguarded heart. You know your eye is a Wellspring is an opening to to The Well of your heart your mind the thoughts.
During the last you know, just to give a and some of you might understand this as well during our increasingly toxic environment. We live in it's easy to have uncharitable thoughts about people who you don't know somebody they're in the news or whatever and you have an uncharitable thought I found myself having really uncharitable thoughts about people I didn't know whether they be in Washington DC or somewhere else in the world, and I realized I can't that's I can't have that but that's poisonous that is gonna poison my life. And so the thing is is when those thoughts come which I think sometimes are normal. Are we entertaining those that's why I said you have to guard your heart. You could not let thoughts whether it be whether it be lust whether it be uncharitableness whether it be Covetous, whatever those things are. You cannot let those bury in your heart. You have to guard your heart it brings you life. It is the way station of your life. And if you're feeling worn out and tired and overstimulated by all this stuff in the world, maybe it's time to put some guards around The Well of your heart the first thing she was righteousness, you choose righteousness make those right decisions as best. You can boom you're gonna have the light the sun is gonna shine upon your path. Number two guard your heart. It's gonna give you a sweet. Well, it's gonna give you a well that actually brings you sustenance and then the third and final one before we close is make level paths for your feet on the way up to the the peak.
Snowdonia, which I've never been to although there is a train you can take to the top and I might do that. If we ever go back there's a thing on the other side. That's a little bit harder to go up and it's called you can go up this path. It's called scrambling. There's a picture of it here. And that's all this Shale and there's these big pieces of shale and I don't know if you know slate if you've been to England all the many of the roofs are slate roofs and they've been doing that for thousands of years. And so they have all this slate that is there and it's really difficult to walk through and you actually have to scramble up it now the cool people go that way but it's definitely not the way I want to go if I want to keep my ACL or my ACL or keep my knee together or whatever it is.
How often We make a decision. Let's just say it's an email. Someone gives you something they lights you up and you're like watch me work. I'm a keyboard wizard. I'm coming back at you and you you send this email. I like on Twitter. Now it gives you like 30 seconds to say no. I don't want to send that after all it has like a timed thing now.
You send that email then afterwards you're like, oh I had a boss that said if you ever send an email afterwards like yes, he's like you probably sent the wrong email where you've done something. You keep that picture up if you would and instead of creating a level path for yourself. You've actually created that a bunch of shale that slips on each other and you've created something for your life. You can do that in our relationships our decisions either create level paths for ourselves.
Or we create messes for ourselves and difficult places to walk where it's easy to sprain your ankle and actually slows down your progress. One of the reasons I've wanted to study the Proverbs so much is because I don't want to create messes that I don't have the margin or desire to clean up. There's a lot of times in a relational or whatever you think you could do this.
Or let's just say in my marriage my wife and have a conversation. I'm like man, I could come off the top rope right now on this conversation. I'm ready to go like WWE 1984, you know Macho Man Randy Savage who I do a great impersonation of Macho Man. Yeah, I'm sorry and I think I I I've got this point. I'm gonna come off the top rope and I'm just gonna let my on this argument let my wife know like I'm right.
Dude, I just learned I might be right I'm gonna be wrong and I don't I don't have the margin to clean that up nor do I want to because it isn't that important to me that's making level paths. When we lived in Orange County, we did a a decom anybody do a decomposed Granite. Yeah, they were really popular through your garden and not just being a messy thing when it rains and give mud all over the place, but nonetheless and you would take this thing and you actually get the decomposed granted you wet it down and you stamp it and make it really hard and in the summer. It is such an incredible thing to walk on that decomposed Granite path as it's straight. It's hard.
It's level this straight path. Those are the two types of paths that we can take we can take that path. Or you can take something and make a level path for yourself. I would say in your decisions. Ask yourself. Is this making a level path for me? It might feel good, but it might not be a level path for yourself. I put when you make level paths righteousness.
Is indispensable for really for believers righteousness in regard to making level paths or making level paths making right action is indispensable for believers. and indefensible for Satan in defensible I want to say that the enemy of our souls I believe in a devil. A lot of people don't believe in a double anymore thousands of years.
The majority of humanity is believed in evil in the world. I'm one of them. The scripture is very clear that if you do if you trust Jesus for your noun righteousness, and then you try to make level paths for yourself making right decisions that God will always get you where you're supposed to go. The Bible is clear that it is an indefensible.
So I put it as indispensable righteousness indispensable for believers and in defensible for Satan. You want to have an indefinite a life where Satan cannot defend against you where you were taking territory where Christ that says is leading us what in a triumphal procession where you were taking ground not in survival mode constantly now, there are times where we're in survival mode and Seasons, but God doesn't want to suspend our entire life and survival mode. He wants us to take ground take to or territory and it says in I believe Ecclesiastes or proverb one of the other that it says for the righteous boundary lines will be set in Pleasant places.
Are your boundary lines of your life the margin you have for your life? Is it in Pleasant places? Do you live on a thousand acre ranch in your life in Montana, or do you live in a 250 square foot Studio, you know in Hell's Kitchen, you know in New York you can have the margin you want and oftentimes it is set by the decisions. We make Proverbs three five through six says this as we close trust in the Lord with all of your heart Lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways not some in all your ways. Acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. I spent the last four weeks going over what it means to walk in the proverbial wisdom of God. And God, I will finish with this God as he does. I get all excited about a sermon series and talk about wisdom. I'm gonna help everyone out and then I go to Second Corinthians yesterday and one of the things that says, hey, you know, the Greeks want wisdom. They're always looking for wisdom, but it's not about wisdom Christ is our wisdom and having faith in Christ is the most important wisdom you can have in the end wisdom's awesome everyone. It's gonna help you. It's gonna bless you but we have a religion of faith not a religion of wisdom. The faith of in Jesus Christ is foolishness to the world when you tell the world I follow Jesus, I believe in God, he loves me. They're gonna think you're a fool but the Bible says that the righteousness is found in that and it's foolishness. Hey, so let's do the best we can to be wise while understanding that we have faith that it's considered foolishness and move on to the rest of this year solidified and wisdom. Amen.
