Scripture: Proverbs 16:1-9
Pastor Harry takes Proverbs 16:1-9 into the place most people actually live, between planning and faith. Two statements sit against each other and he refuses to resolve them. Failure to plan is planning to fail. And faith does not always pencil out.
The passage holds both. A man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. So the question is not whether to plan but what happens to the plan once it is made.
Three moves. Acknowledge God's sovereignty while questioning your own motives, because all a man's ways seem innocent to him and motives are weighed elsewhere. Harry tests this on himself out loud with a 1986 Ferrari Testarossa he and his brother nearly bought, asking whether he wants it or wants to be seen with it.
Commit whatever you do to the Lord, which he describes as drafting — getting in behind and letting the plan become God's rather than yours. William Booth, who built the Salvation Army, said the greatness of a person's power is the measure of his surrender.
And the verse the chapter ends on: better a little with righteousness. Harry lands it in 1 Thessalonians 4 and a quiet life — peppermint tea, bare feet in the grass, rather than chaos held in hope of peace later.
Key topics:
- Failure to plan is planning to fail; faith does not always pencil out
- Motives weighed — tested out loud on a Ferrari Testarossa
- The greatness of a person's power is the measure of his surrender

Morning, La Jolla Christian Fellowship. My name is Harry. I'm the student Ministries Pastor on staff. I'm in our youth room and keeping with Mission Sunday this Thursday. I will be flying out to Africa and I'm partnering with graceful Warrior Project and I'll be teaching Jujitsu base self-defense to women and sharing the gospel and I just want to say thank you so much to everybody who's donated who's prayed to help make that happen. So really excited about that. And then I the honor of reading scripture this morning today's scripture reading comes from Proverbs chapter 16 verses 1 through 9.
to man belong the plans of the heart But from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue. All a man's ways seem innocent to him but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed. The Lord works out everything for his own ends, even the wicked for a day of disaster the Lord detests all the proud of heart be sure of this. They will not go unpunished through love and faithfulness sin is atone for through the fear of the Lord a man avoids evil.
When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him. Better a little with righteousness than much gain with Injustice in his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps the word of the Lord. Right on. Hey on this Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend want to welcome you and yeah, I just want to thank Chris for that rendition goodness gracious.
There remember Michael Jordan did that dunk? And it's like the iconic donkey just saw like the windmill she had a cradle going on reverse. We just got dunked on that was sick. It was watching. I'm in the poster right now. I'm gonna pray Lord Jesus. I want to thank you God for your goodness. We love you Jesus. Still Jesus you love him. Say I love you, Jesus. Love you.
Jesus. Need You Jesus help somebody you need to pray help. Help we want you let this word come alive Lord. We love it low hanging fruit here in Proverbs in Jesus name. Amen. Good to be here with you today. It's awesome. I really look forward to Sunday mornings and preaching God's word and I'm excited that you're enjoying this series called learning curve study of Proverbs every year. We have a curriculum we go through I can I'm gonna be passing that out of how we get to the entirety of God's counsel the Epistles and Revelation and Proverbs and all these things the Old Testament in the new and part of it is through a yearly series. It's about three to four weeks and it is on the Proverbs. And the reason I do that is because it helps us set our year a right. It is low-hanging fruit it is I mean, it is Basics and it is for people who admit to themselves. I'm a simple person. I don't know much and I need you God and God's like here it is. Do these things if then he has a lot of that if then if you do this, then I will do this. And so this is how we properly live and this is just as much following the Holy Spirit as walking around town saying Holy Spirit lead me today lead me today actually the Holy Spirit Called wisdom in the Book of Proverbs and the Holy Spirit leads you so one of the best ways to hear from God and to make plans is to Dive Into the Book of Proverbs and just do what it says. That's called following the Holy Spirit. There is this modern belief that all following the holy spirit is kind of like this ethereal. We're waiting for a voice from heaven or waiting for something to happen. That's special or different or unique or Supernatural.
Let me say the Proverbs are Supernatural you do it and God says he will step in and supernaturally direct your life. So let's see what it has to say today as we're in Proverbs 16:1 through 9. You have it on your notes and hopefully have your Bible as well. We are using the NIV 1984 Edition from now on and so it's just a better translation than the new than the new NIV in my opinion can talk about that but there's a bunch of reasons but 1984 you can find that online. It's always gonna be in your note Proverbs 16 1 through 9. Let me tell you what this basic proverb says.
And it's one of my favorite Proverbs. I want to encourage you to read it with Psalm 16. I don't know that was on purpose or whatever but psalm 16 and Proverbs 16 have a nice poultice. If you blend them together to get some time this week read both of those Proverbs 16 1 through 9. Defines the delicate balance. And is it delicate between trusting our planning?
Or our provider, right? So Proverbs 16:1 through 9 has this incredible conversation. It draws us into remember wisdom is speaking. Wisdom is saying listen to me and wisdom in this passage is say is defining that delicate balance between trusting our planning or are provider now Robert Burns the Scottish poet said and you've heard the term before and but maybe you haven't read it in the original language or Antiquated English. It says the best laid schemes we use plans the best late schemes Of Mice and Men gang aftually, what does that age? Actually? Yeah, they're agile the plans that we make are so agile, they'll just slip away from us so quickly now there is in if you've ever been in the charismatic world, I lived in the charismatic world and sometimes in the charismatic World there is this thought that who needs the plan jump in faith jump, there's a cliff there. Let's jump off it, you know, and we'll ask if we have a parachute later and see because we believe in God and we have so much Faith. Well, there's something to be said for that for having faith. Sometimes that doesn't pencil out, you know, but at the same time there's this idea of planning you go to other Churches other traditions and they're going to be like, hey, it's all about planning. It's all about wisdom and we can sometimes set up a tent in one of those camps think if you're going to walk in the full Council of God's word, you're going to want to have a foot in both. You're going to want to straddle the line of sometimes saying hey, this doesn't pencil out.
I'm not sure and I don't know what my planning but I'm just gonna because I feel in my heart. I'm following the heart that I'm gonna jump into that in faith, but then there's other times you're like, you know, that seems foolish we can call we can do something foolish and call it faith and I've done that myself and I've seen people do that.
So sometimes there's just a planning element and this passage is just so good and it talks about Three different ways of how we follow God in faith while still planning for our future right? Because this is Discerning from God. This is what this whole passage is about. It's called learning curve. It's about discernment and how do we discern? And so we've been talking about that the first two weeks we got this week and next up to follow that out. But if you think about a plan right now that's in your heart. Do you have a plan in your heart? And how are you going to address that plan right now the thing that you want to do we all have a thing right? It's New Year's right? It's a new year. We all have a thing. We're planning on her.
Try to change or excited about some of you have new businesses. Some of you have schooling trips and all these things that you want to do. How do we follow God in the midst of that? How do we have this element of faith? And how do we plan for that? So the ways are planning through prayer are using plan prayer is one of your planning tools God's word counsel, all these other things and so how do we follow God with faith while planning for the future? There's two little statements. I want to hit you with first on once again, we're straddling this idea discernment. It's found in both camps faith and planning.
First of all, you've heard the saying failure to plan is planning to fail I would agree with that. There has to be a planning and at the same time Faith does not always pencil out. Failure to plan is planning to fail. And Faith doesn't always pencil out when you're following God. There's going to be times where God saying, I want you to do this with your time.
I want you to do this with your heart. I want you to do this with your Finance. I want you to do this with your priorities and you're like that doesn't pencil out. That isn't going to work and God's like I don't care if it doesn't pencil out. I'm the God, you know of the Sharpie who just comes on through. It's like no, I'm just gonna write it and give the ending to your story. God is writing your story. And so we're finding that balance. Are you using faith? Maybe you need to up that Faith a little bit. Maybe need to up that planning.
Three things that we're going to look at today number one that this passage talks about these nine verses one is acknowledge God's sovereignty. While questioning your personal motives huge Point acknowledging God's sovereignty the word sovereignty. What does that mean that he's Sovereign? He is King. He is in charge of everything. You cannot make a plan that can out that can outdo. They can supersede God's will there is no plan that you will make that in the end God's will will not overtake God's will the scripture always says that it will always overtake your plants. So why plan?
Wife and plan if God's gonna work it out. Anyways, why plan the good question good question. Really good question. I think sometimes as God just wants to be in the relationship with us as part of that. But number one acknowledge God's sovereignty while questioning personal personal motives number two. Commit everything that you do to God.
What does it mean to commit we talked about last week a couple weeks ago. It was like tithing or something like that where you you give honor to you commit you take what you have and you let the other person drive. Basically you ride shotgun you say here's my plan God. I'm gonna commit it. So number two is commit everything you do to God how good are you committing? Right got these plans. You got your plans for the year. Have you committed them to the Lord yet?
Cool little promise In this passage, whatever you commit to the Lord. He promises to succeed massive promise. Do We Believe it or is that just Hyperbole and number three? I put this want less and plan less. There's a interesting little caveat here at the end. Go to the verse 8. Are yeah go to verse 8 right there better a little with righteousness.
Than much gain with Injustice. What's that doing in there? Like seriously, why is that in there? If you were to break this passage apart and look at all the things God's saying about plan commit your plans to the Lord, but don't worry because I got this but make a plan but don't worry because I got this it's eight verses of that and then you get to verse not or excuse me, seven verses of that and it ends with that as well in verse 9, but there's this little caveat in verse 8, why is it there? It says better a little with the righteousness than much game within Justice.
We'll talk about that. Sometimes God says I just need to plan last. Now for you that don't plan you need to like. Find some balance there, right but God is saying hey, like just trust me more plan a little bit less. So interesting verse three things acknowledge God's sovereignty well questioning your personal motives commit to everything you do to God and want less. Let's go to number one acknowledge God sovereignty while questioning your personal motives. We're gonna go to verse 1 and 2.
To man that's mankind includes you women belong Circle belong. the plans of the heart So to stop right there before we read the rest first thing I want to say is we're talking about who owns your plans. right We're talking about ownership of the plans and what you're gonna see you're gonna see a transfer of of planning wealth talk about transfer a wealth a lot. You are going to take the wealth of your dreams and your desires and you were going to take something that belongs to you. And you were going to transfer it to God if you wanted to succeed very clear have you made that transfer or do are we Pearl clutching? You will know the amount of transfer that has gone as half the transfer gone through a quarter by the amount of stress.
Derision upsetness worry you have about your plans. The more you can say God, this is yours. The less you are going to worry about it. So if you have a new plan, you want a new house your kids you're trying to get your kid into that new school. I know the beginning around summertime. I start getting Hammer trying to get our kid into this school that school. Can you write a reference and a lot of times there's a lot of angst. There's just one of those situations where you can see that to man belong the plans of the heart.
Now we see this in a minute. We're going to see that transfer but here we get into God's sovereignty right but Circle but the from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue and what do they mean that you're just gonna whenever you talk about your plans. It's God's gonna just start talking out of your mouth. No, that's not what that means.
What that means is you can make all the plans you want. But God's gonna get there. It's God's gonna work it out. It's his sovereignty no matter what your plan your plan is. You cannot out plan God, but God still wants you to plan. So we see that here and it says in verse 2 we're going to get to is all man's ways seem innocent to him. But his motives are weighed by the Lord. We'll get to the motives and just a second. So we're seeing this balance here right between our plans and God's reply I put in the notes.
the spiritually mature long for the will of God more than they Pine for their own desires to be fulfilled. The spirit's immature. You'll know you are spiritually mature. When you start caring more about Kingdom ideas and what's happening in the Kingdom? That about your own personal plans. I have a friend and he was as a group of friends and he said he called he's making a big decision is like big decision huge decision.
And he has International friends like me and he said he talked to his American friends and his American friends were saying hey, you know, it's it's all about your family. It's all about what you want to do is more personally motivated about you know, hey take care of this before you make that decision. It's all family, which is great. That's a great word of counsel. Our families are really the starting point for Kingdom work a lot of times when he said he spoke to his International Friends in Africa and different places like that.
the thing that they first said he said he spoke to many of them the first thing that every one of them to a person said was how's that going to affect the kingdom? What's that going to do? What does God doing in the midst of that? You know, we're an individualistic Nation. So we're gonna start with that. We have a different mindset. Sometimes I think with your plans.
How tied to your plans are you somebody want to get into college? So you want to go to graduate school some of you want to own franchises of different restaurants some of you want to be on football teams. Some of you you all got your thing, right? How tied to it are you and so we see that the spiritually mature will long for the will of God more than they Pine for the desire their desires to be fulfilled.
William Booth said that William Booth is the is the man who started the Salvation Army and one of the few social justice movements of the early 1900s late 1800s that actually is held true to its biblically conservative values the Salvation Army and this is what he said the greatness of a person's power or a man's power. Is the measure of his surrender?
the greatness of a person's power is measured in surrender, you know, that is so upside down right? Because in our world the measure of your power is measured by control in the world. It's completely upside down what William Booth is saying here is one of the greatest. If not, I won't say the greatest but probably the top five social welfare organizations that has ever graced. The face of the Earth is the Salvation Army. Thank God for the salvos is what they call an Australian when I was there. He said that the measure of the power if you want power in your life, you've got to let it go. You've got to give God control and understand God's sovereignty and all of your plans. Do you go do you see that sovereignty? I put this in regard to God sovereignty.
Few things offer more. Peace Than a high value of God's sovereignty. God I trust you God this God, you know what you got a few things matter fact. I don't want to be hyperbolic, but but probably there's probably nothing. I'd have to think through it more but let's say a few things. Few things will bring you peace or have brought me more peace in a high value of God's sovereignty like I'm gonna make a decision. But God, I know you got this the proverb this proverb in particular Proverbs 16, one of my top five Proverbs has really gotten to the point of after so many years of reading it to just you know, when I get in those situations having an easier ability doesn't always work, but an easier ability to say God, I'm letting this go you've got this I I'm too small you are big you are great. You are the solution. How is your belief? Do you have that? Peace?
That wealth transfer of your plan. So plans are wealth, right? They're they're wealth for you. They're well for emotional wealth. Sometimes they're Financial wealth. We don't really plan anything negative for ourselves. If you do you're going in the wrong direction in your life and it's time to go the other direction but most of what we plan right is we want well, we want margin and wealth Not just money by that. I mean and so when those things start when your plans become in Jeopardy what happens we tense we get tight, but when we can say to God God first of all, is this your plan because you see it says that it belongs to the Lord. But later on it says it commit what you give to God and he will cause them to succeed. Why does he cause them to succeed because he takes ownership of it. You've committed it to the Lord. And so the question is is how much commitment have you done? And are you happy to have your plans fail?
If God's plan succeed. That's spiritual maturity. And that's tough. But it is what we are called to a couple verses that I love out of out of Proverbs go to the end here in verse 9. It's gonna Circle right from the beginning. It's gonna go back and repeat itself in verse 9 verse 9 says In his heart a man plans, his course. But the Lord determines the steps.
God will determine the steps. I run sometimes with my wife or I don't really running. We're kind of just walk now. I'm just too old to run but I'll walk with my wife and especially my daughter Lucy and and Lily a little bit. But Lucy has this thing is like when we walk she kind of walks sideways does your partner walk sideways when you walk with people that kind of bump you as you go pretty soon. I'm off on the road. You know what I mean? I'm stepping in whatever.
And that's kind of how God is. You're like hey God, I'm gonna head on down to Bird Rock. He's got great plan great plan. You're gonna end up alone, you know saying why because as you start walking, he said like boom boom just start, you know knocking you and it's just like God will determine your steps. You know what I want that.
I don't trust my plans. I just don't I do trust that if I can commit them to the Lord if there's enough Integrity because right are you gonna commit something to the Lord? You can't really commit something the Lord that's that's debaucherous. Right? Like you don't have the courage to do that. So if you commit something to the Lord's usually something that's good and righteous and you can commit that you can't commit something that's sinful and degraded to God, right? That's why it's exceeds because God's okay nice nice transfer a wealth. I'll take that wealth from your life those plans those things that you care about so much I'm gonna make a mind matter of fact, they might have been mine in the in the beginning and I just gave them to you so that we can partner on this together. So that's it says that at the end in verse 9, it circles back to that.
In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps now women don't think you're off the hook here because everything says man remember that it says in Proverbs that wisdom is a woman. It says listen to the teachings of your father, but there's multiple times where it says, you know wisdom is this woman who is speaking. So maybe it's speaking to the men but oftentimes in in Proverbs. It's a woman who's telling doing the teaching so don't think you're off the hook because we got a woman seen his wisdom in the proverb speaking and then one of the other just to back it up here to end with God sovereignty proverbs 20:24.
It says a man steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his way there. We are. Why plan? Really? Like why plan? It's like who can you know God why why even do anything and God is just saying I want you to think I want you to pray. I want to work with you. I want to have conversations with you. But in the end, I'm going to direct your steps, you know, Romans 8:28 and 29. I preach here all the time.
It says that that for those that love God all things will work together for what good? For those that love God and are called according to his purpose. Just because your plan doesn't work out the way you wanted. It doesn't mean that God can't work it for good. We need to get off the idea away from the idea that everything that succeeds was is what's good and if something fails in our life, it's bad.
How many times has God protected you from something that you wanted really really bad? You've been in a relationship or a business deal or something like God I want this. Oh let this workout. You're like, oh my gosh. Thank God that did not work out, you know. Moving on the next final thing. It says here in this first part is questioning your motives questioning. Your motives is a high sign of humility and spiritual maturity if you want to go to Verse 2 all of a man's ways seem innocent to him.
but motives such a big word circle the word motives are weighed by the Lord weighed by why do you want what you want? I want to tell you something I want. Not embarrassed of it. There's a picture of right now one of the most beautiful sports cars in the world. It is the 1986 Ferrari testosterosa now. I know can't have it wrong profession to own it.
If I was a lawyer I could have it can own that car. All right, it is their boaten to me. My brother and I wanted to buy it together back in the about 10 15 years ago for 35,000 each. We could have had it now. It's up to 200 and priced out of my price range unless the congregation was like the gifted to me for just playing playing some Churches do that. Not this one.
Yeah right there. Yeah Too Tall. It's got another pop top comes off. Trust me if Magnum can drive a Ferrari I could drive a Ferrari. Okay, so all right, you take that down. One of the things I'm asking myself is you know what I want that I definitely I'm pretty sure I don't want it to impress people matter if they told me you could only have it in a garage up in Big Bear and you had to come, you know, put yourself in Disguise to ride around you can only drive yourself. No one ever know. That was you I still want it because I think I just like to speed you know what I'm saying? That's a motive question and I'm probably not gonna have that thing, but it's just kind of a stupid example to tell you when you have a plan.
I think motives are important. If you don't know why you're doing what you're doing. Don't do it. You need to know and and it's hard sometimes, you know, the Lord has to strain and discern those motives. Why are you doing what you're doing? Why am I the pastor of this church? I found out, you know years ago. A lot of the reason I was in Ministry was because of all the accolades. I got of the ability to succeed of the lifestyle. There's all these things that were kind of perks.
But they really needed to be filtered because they weren't Godly and what I found out is there was a lot of stress that came with them when it's about succeeding or carrying what people think I'm telling you a story this week. As I was, you know planning for the Year this actually during the Christmas holiday. I was planting for the year.
And I caught myself thinking as I planned there's this group of people and they really like let's just make it up they like worship and if you don't give them more worship that group of people might leave the church. I better put worship into the deal. Oh, there's this group of people and they really want more Evangelistic events. There's this group of people who want more social welfare events to go in and help the poor.
There's this group that wants more teaching. There's this group and pretty soon. I found myself making this list based on what the you know a survey of the congregation and while I take the council the conjugation that's not where I get my final marching orders for actually had to scrap the list and say this planning and leading this church can't be about me trying to please people because I'm afraid they're gonna leave me or leave the church or hurt my success. I don't know if that Rings true to you but it's about that motive. One of the best thing you can do is just sit before God with your plans have your plans and say God. What's my motive?
Show me my heart. God wants to know are you in it are you in it to win it for yourself? Are you in it? Because you want to expand the kingdom of God and you find that out. So question your motives two verses on a Proverbs. We'll come in for a landing here. Number one Proverbs 21:2 love the Proverbs Every Man's ways is right in his own eyes.
But the Lord weighs the hearts. The heart that's where your bread is buttered in your heart. The mind's great the Bible talks about the heart. If you believe in your heart and mind and confess with your mouth, you'll be saved. No, don't say that. Not that we throw out the mind. But the this is not a mind religion because the faith religion and so it is about it's a following from the heart. We don't throw out the mind.
But we are saved by a belief in the heart it says and so that's important. It says in his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines the steps that was early and then proverbs 14:2. There is a way that appears to be right remember this as you planned this man, this is held me back so many times. There was a way that appears to be right.
But in the end it leads to death. I say there are a lot of things going on our culture right now that appear to be right that seems right to me that feels right? Why shouldn't that be the case? Why man that make that makes sense to me? Yeah, the way that we should just change this or change that or these things that have gone on for Antiquity for thousands of years of culture after culture. We should just change all that that seems right. It seems just it seems fair. But in the end sometimes those things lead to death now, it's gonna take discernment to figure out what those things are. And how are we going to hold to the things that God says but in my own planning I say God is this writer. Is it leading me to death? All right, then the pivots to two things that we're done.
Commit. The first thing it says is commit everything you do to God go to verse 3 and 4. Commit to the Lord whatever you do. whatever I love that whatever you do. and your plans will succeed stop right there before we get to the next part then we just go over it says it actually verse 4 the Lord works out everything for his own and so he's always bringing it to his own and that's a bold promise.
That's a bold promise. Do we believe that? Wait, I want to say I'm working really hard on every time I have a plan and I feel like you just do the best you can do right because I don't know my motives. I can't understand my way. Is it even says that in the scripture you do the best you can do and knowing you did the best you can do then you jump off in faith with that plan. Every plan is Faith anyways, and you give that to God it says you committed to him and then your plans will be succeed. Why will they succeed? Well, it really has to do with that transfer of planning wealth. It's actually you've given it to him. And actually he takes ownership of it. See if you give it if you could you commit something to him that's debaucherous and wrong. He's gonna be like not can't touch that. No can't touch that. You know, it's like, you know MC Hammer. He's just sitting there, you know can't touch that can't touch this to do the dance or whatever when you're transfer that over but when you transfer something to God, he's like, I know you don't understand it. I know you're motive. You don't even know that there's something your dad said to you and 1962 that's causing you make this decision or some failure or some weakness or some pride you Been know it and I know you don't know but I'm still going to accept it because you've done the best that you can do. I'm gonna purify it. I'm gonna take it. I'm gonna make it good and when that transfer happens when God gets that goodness that you've given him the best that you can do many makes it his own. That's why it succeeds.
It's not your plan that succeeds. It's him saying, you know what that's a good plan that plan honors me. I'm gonna make that succeed because now it's my plan come along and just you know, basically draft me remember Biker something in race cars, you can draft you just get behind somebody and you go in the draft. And so that's what we see swimmer. I see Megan over there swimming you guys are smile.
You just get in that draft. That is what it means to commit to the Lord. Okay. So look at your plans again. Have you committed them to the Lord? Have you committed them to the Lord? We see that it's a bold promise and I would say that also committing things to God puts us in a victory mindset this week. I'm planning a trip to Israel. Hopefully, right. So there's picture of Israel very cool picture of Israel and we're looking at going in October and like I normally do I announce what I like to do before it's actually planned. So I've jumped out of the plane with the Israel trip, and I have people calling me about Israel not have that picture.
Um, so nonetheless, it's very cool picture of Israel. Just picture it just sign a little thing that looks like Israel. Um, there it is. There it is. You got a little sunset going on there and I've got there and then all of a sudden as I'm as I'm there and I'm thinking about it. I started looking at dates. It's a little late to plan for this year. I found out. Oh sold out sold out sold out. I'm like but I promised but I said, but I mentioned it from the congregation which I know not to do until after it's planned but I get so excited sometimes so I just do it right so some of you are like me and we just yeah a lot of that so I'm stressing right? I'm like, oh what if it's real doesn't happen and I got people who want to go and nonetheless the Lord's like just committed to me dude, just chill and don't worry about if this person's gonna be upset or frustriana about you that tends to get hit on my radar a little bit. So I just gave it to the Lord and then I thought it's gonna succeed once I gave it away. I put this committing things to God puts us in a victory mindset. We're gonna crush this that you know, whatever God you give to God you're gonna have Victory and it puts you in mindset where you can just plan.
in Victory I actually am getting this good habit of every time I plant something. And feel like I've given it to the Lord as best I can as correctly as I can. I think I'm gonna succeed. I just I feel like I'm going to succeed whether it be. You know, one of the things we're trying to do is you many of you know, this we're trying to do a preschool and different things. I know it's gonna happen because I've given I just know it now it might not have it but because God determines our steps right but I'm like we're gonna win let's go let's a victory mindset. It's a faith mindset and that's what it means. It isn't this idea of just have faith and it's gonna happen. No, it's gonna happen if you have faith and you've committed it to the Lord in the right way you thought through your motives and you've given it to God and then he wants to own it. That's how it happens and that how it works and the final one is this and I just love this.
Verse go to this little caveat. This is just sticking in there. It's like a little knife in your side. Just poking. You first eight better a little with righteousness. Than much gain with Injustice. What does that doing there? It's all this about planning and God determining him his steps and it's all about this planting stuff. And basically it's just a little like speed bump a little speed bump and it basically says Hey chill out on all the wants and all the plants.
Like I know you want something bigger you want something better if you want peace plan less. A want less is what I mean. I mean you still plan things that are important. I'm not saying we throw planning out but we always when we get quiet, what do we do? Well, I gotta have some bigger. I gotta have some bigger. I need a bigger plan. I need a bigger trip. I need more more more more.
This says here it basically it just says this it says better a little with righteousness the much game with Injustice. I will say not planning things that you know, you should do when it comes to like future planning dreaming going for the next thing going big. That's big for America. Right? We love that go big or go home. You got to be known you got to be an influencer. You got to be all these things sometimes God just says, how much do you value? Peace?
There's a lot of plans we could do here at the church our own life. I'm like, you know what? I don't have the margin to pull that off the older I get the less. Margin. I realize I have here's a great verse that Thessalonians will close. First Thessalonians 4:11 through 12 make it your ambition love that word. to lead a quiet life to remind your own business to work with your own hands just as you were told so that your daily life may win respect of The Outsiders and so that you will not be dependent upon anybody.
Like just chill out. How much do you how much do you want? Peace? It's like I find so often we myself included do all these things that bring stress to our life and the hope that it might bring peace at some point. I'm gonna do all this stressful. I'm gonna live in chaos and Chaos because there's peace on the other side of that one. You can just have peace now.
Just go home and chill. You know what? I mean? Enjoy your tea. I look around at the world. I get so overwhelmed that the world and the things that are happening and the politics of it and all this thing and I feel like God's just saying hey, there's some peppermint tea over there if you just want to like making a nice temperature so it like it's your tongue just right and smell it and then go take your shoes off and get in your grass. I did this the other day and just feel grass on your feet and look at the ocean and this and the and the and the Sun and the sky and like laugh with your kids. Like that's it that's life. Not this like treadmill stuff. We got to do more and more and more. And so that's what it says here and all this planning and all the conversation that we took on board today. Don't forget How This Ends better with a little right better a little bit with some righteousness than much game with Injustice.
What do you want? Let's stand.
