What I want to do I want to do something A little different Really quick, okay I want us to stand To read the word real quick Okay, just Let's go ahead and stand up Real quick And I'm going to read the word Because I truly think that The word of God Is the best tool To change anyone So we're going to read Right now in Matthew 8 Verses 14 through 17 I'm going to read it right now And it starts with this, okay It says And when Jesus entered Peter's house He saw his mother-in-law Lying sick with a fever He touched her hand And the fever left her And she rose And began to serve him That evening They brought to him Many who were oppressed By demons And he cast out the spirit With a word And healed all who were sick This was to fulfill What was spoken by The prophet Isaiah He took our illnesses And bore our diseases This is the reading of the word You may be seated Thank you guys so much for that It's truly an honor To be up here To kind of bring the word And I want to kind of start With just kind of Give you the background Of what we have just read here In Matthew 8 Verses 14 through 17 And Jesus has just got done Talking about The Sermon on the Mount Talking about the kingdom of God And what that actually looks like And he said so many things That the people around Were surprised That he didn't just Talk as a scribe But he talked as one That had authority So now we get to verse 8 Right Chapter 8 I meant And we see this demonstration Start to take place Right He first heals someone Who has leprosy He then heals The centurion servant As well And then we get to this Kind of ordinary situation Where here is a common place And Jesus meets Someone who is Having a fever And is in the bed Very common You see What I love about this story Is that this story Is not just about healing Now I don't know about you I don't think no one in here Matter of fact Let's do this Does anyone like to be sick?

Anyone? Okay right Exactly No one Like I despise sickness To be honest with you Like it just It does something Debilitating to you You're just in the bed Not doing anything At all whatsoever But just trying to Let your body recover From what you just Have experienced So I can relate To the mother-in-law Right here in this story Like man Like I know She was just grateful When she saw Jesus Coming to the home But this is not Just a healing story But it's a picture Of what happens When Jesus has access And my question For all of us Me included My question for all of us Is this right here Is Jesus invited?

Is he invited? I'm going to share this story Really quick So I served Well I kind of still Serving in reserve right now But when I was active duty I was a Navy recruiter For the last bit Of my time in the military And when you're recruiting You get to hang With another recruiter And y'all go to different schools And you start to build This relationship As you spend time With this person Because you're working together And all these different things And this young lady I started ministering to her As we would go To these different schools And she was in this Very very toxic relationship And this one day We're driving And she's talking about it And she just Breaks down crying Now I don't know about you But when someone Just abruptly Just starts crying It kind of just I was like Oh hold on Slow down Let's bring this back in Reel it back in That was too fast Too quick I didn't get like A build up to the cry It was like Just immediately So I'm talking to her And she's like I mean And look I was very empathetic Okay So don't Don't Don't come for me right now I was empathetic I really was But while she's crying I hear the Holy Spirit Say to me Tell her That I want to heal her But there was a condition To the healing And I was like Okay He was The Holy Spirit Said to me That she needs To let go Of those friends And I was like Okay So she's crying Still crying Crying Crying Crying And I say to her I was like Look I'm hearing What And I've been In a bit of a relationship With this young lady I said God's just spoken With the Holy Spirit Just spoken to me And said that He wants to heal you But you have to Let go of some friends And I don't know Was it a magic trick But she immediately Stopped crying I was like Okay Now that was A little kind of Kind of weird To be honest with you But she immediately Stops crying And she says I can't do that And in that moment I understood This question right here Is Jesus allowed To heal What we have learned To manage Like a lot of us Can become Very great managers Of what we are Experiencing Right We can take care Of we can Compartmentalize The situation And put it over there And kind of hide it In the corner And we could do All these different things But is Jesus Actually allowed To heal What you may go through And it's not just A physical healing Sometimes it's emotional Some of us Have been through Some traumatic things In life And we still have Not allowed Jesus to heal That specific area So my question To all of us Is he allowed Can we truly allow Jesus to transform Our struggle And the first point That I want to make Right now Is this Transformation Starts with access Transformation It starts with access If you got your notes Let's go to verse 14 Right now Let's read this And it says this And when Jesus Entered Peter's house He saw his mother-in-law Lying sick With a fever I want you to circle Enter If you have your notes Let's circle that word Right there Because I think It's a I think it's something That we should really Take time to understand That the Bible When the Bible Describes God It says that he is good And it also says That he cannot be Tempted with evil And in my life I've understand I've come to understand This one thing Is that a lot of The The hurtful things We go through A lot of the upsets A lot of the The The Backstabbing Or just the The hurtful things That we experience In life It's not truly To destroy us But it's to reveal What's in our heart Because suffering It brings those things To the surface Very fast Very quickly When you experience Something that's Indifferent That you do not like That you don't want To go through It will show you Exactly what you believe in Very easily Now I could admit I don't like Suffering at all I try to avoid it Like the plague Like no one wants To go through suffering Like I totally understand And I could only imagine This mother-in-law She would rather be Somewhere else Than sleeping in The bed Not sleeping in bed But sick in the bed And hoping that Something would change You see When Jesus is not Invited Perceptions Get ruined I was hiking And I heard this When I was hiking yesterday And I'm just like Thinking about Preparing for the message Today And just Thinking about you guys Because I truly love you I want you truly To understand like How much God Cares for you That he didn't just Get rid of sin He died for sin That's how much He cares for Every single person Here No matter what You have experienced No matter what You have been through No matter what You have done God Still Loves you And he cares About you Deeply Deeply And as I'm doing This hike I also have Like a It's my first I'm actually hiking With a weighted vest And as I'm hiking I heard the Holy Spirit Just say like There's so many people That consider themselves To be Christian But they walk around With this weighted thing On their lives And it keeps them From being Effective In their marriages Being effective As a parent Being effective In their workspaces Because they can't Around all of this baggage And if they would Just allow me To step in I could truly Change them But there's always Some barriers That we kind of Come up against Right There's different Barriers that we Experience in life And one of those Is pride Right Pride Pride is a huge one Because pride It locks doors That humility Would have opened Because we want To do everything On our own I don't need No help And look I've been guilty Of that And I'm still Being healed From it Okay But It closes doors That God is trying To enter in And open up And just release us To do exactly What he has for us Another one is control Right We always want To control everything We want We want healing That God can provide But we do not Surrender You see the young lady That was in the military That I was with She thought That if God Would take something That he wasn't able To replace it Like Like I want you to Understand is that Whatever it is That God is trying To let Tell you to let go Please understand That if he's telling You to let it go He has something Even better To replace it But you have To let go Of the control You have to let go And let him Do what he does best And that's bringing Healing Another one is fear I literally was Talking to this guy Me and him Was hanging out Great guy Phenomenal guy And he said to me This is like Came out of his mouth I was like wow I never thought Someone would think Like that But he said that If I let him in If I let Jesus In my life He will change Everything And I was like Oh And I wonder How many of us Has that same Perception That if I actually Let God into my marriage If I actually Let God into my finances If I actually Let God into my parents He's going to change Everything And I'll just be honest With you He will Just The simple As that he will But it's When you think That you're Smarter than God You are in a Serious You're just You're not going to Win that battle I'm just I just can't Like he He knows things And the Holy Spirit Revealed to me Is that one of the Worst places for us Ever to be in The worst position To sit down in Is judge And the reason that is Is because you can't See everything You can't see everything Now I'm not saying That you don't have Things that you're judge And everything No I'm saying that When you take a position Like I am judge And whatever I say is It's it You are definitely Treading on thin ice Because you can't Get it wrong Very easily And we see it In the world today So many people Are judging This is right This is right And no one sees Clearly Of what God is doing Though the Bible Is very clear On what's going To happen That people Will start To become Lovers Of themselves And the hearts Of people Will start To turn cold Like he's not Trying to keep Anything secret He's letting you know Exactly what is Taking place So fear Disappointment Is another one Right He didn't heal Me last time And when he Didn't heal You last time You stop Giving Jesus Access To those areas In your life Like I said Before Sometimes the The pain and suffering We go through Is to reveal Our own hearts Or our distrust Or our unbelief In God And the last one I would say Is misunderstanding Misunderstanding Who Jesus Is Oftentimes Creates a hesitation In us coming Closer to him You see The correct View of Jesus Is one of those Things that Opens up doors When you have The correct view If understanding That he Is good And that he Is not Tempted by Evil That's the view There's some things That I've gone Through in my life People have I've lost But my view Of who God is Has not changed Because For me My The ultimate goal For me Is heaven This is just A stopping place So I'm gonna do Everything I Possibly can Today To make sure That He says Well done My good And faithful Servant And that's That's what We all Should be Aiming for But so Many So Many So Many So often We allow What the world Can give Us Destroy our view Of what God Is trying to Change within us Like He is so In love With who You are That he Would send His son To die On the cross For each And every One of us And he Didn't only Just die But he Also Raised him From the dead To give Every single Person in here Eternal life That's how much He cares for us That's how much He loves us And I would Just like Imagine Like Think about This Imagine If every Single person In here Gave God Full access To their lives What would Happen in La Jolla What would Happen in San Diego If every Single person In here Did that Including me Like People be Lined up All the way Up this street Trying to get Up in here You saw When they Opened up Pop up Bagel How the Line was All the way Down here Right Like pop Up bagel Seriously Like what Are we Talking about But when I was like Is this bagels That they Good Now I ain't gonna Lie but That good I'm not Standing in Line for Two hours That is Crazy And if that Was you Forgive me I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry Forgive me No judgment At all Whatsoever But transformation It doesn't Fail Because Jesus Lacks power It fails Because access Is restricted Like we We know Like if you're Listening to what I'm saying You know those Areas in your Life right now That it has A exit sign An X Right on that Door like You can't go In there right Now No Like we Have You can't Touch that That's That's my I That's who I am That's who I become And we All have Them Point two Is this Right here Healing Restores Function And purpose Not just Feeling In verse 15 it Says this Right It says He touched Her hand And the fever Left her And she Rose And began To serve Him Like I Don't know About you But when I'm sick And I I start To feel Better I'm trying To get Out of the House Immediately Like I'm Like let's Go Where are we Going Let's get Out of Here As a matter Of fact I'm probably Not all the Way healed I'm still Trying to Get out I'm like I don't Want to be Confined To this Place At all Whatsoever So it's So amazing To see Her do Something That's Totally Different She didn't Go out And have Fun with Friends She said It says That she Served Him How many Of us When Jesus Has healed A place In our Life Where the Relationship Healed A broken Relationship With our Siblings Healed our Marriage Gave Gave Us a Position That we Wanted How many Of us Go back To serve Him I've been Guilty Of that I've been Plenty I'm like You know What Thank you So much For doing That for Me God You have Blessed Us Tremendously And I Forget Exactly What he Has done I don't Worship him And honor Him For the Healing He did Bring For And it's So easy Look It's so Easy To do That Because we Have so Many Distractions In this World So many Things that Wants to Keep us From being Truly Engage Into what God is Doing in This season Right now There's so Many things And when There's a Lack in Your life You typically Focus on That lack Rather than Focus on Your God And that Has to Change And it Takes time It truly Takes time But when The Lord Ministers to Us Or you Right It should Be reflected In your Service to Him It should Be Reflected In your Service to Him Because healing Transforms Your heart And it Leads us To a Deeper Sense of Purpose And of Service To our Community To our Churches To our Family It It Transformed The whole Entire Person When you Been Totally Healed What Some people Call it Sozo Like when The God Of the Universe He invades Your entire Situation And gives You what You were Praying For The natural Response Should be To go And say God How can I serve How can I help What can I do And that Doesn't Mean it's In the Church It could Be in Your Workspace It could Be in Your It could Be Anywhere But just Have the Conversation With a God who Cares about You Deeply Because he Wants to He wants To heal You All the Way He wants To make You whole A.W.

Tozer said This right Here he Said the Man who Has truly Met God Will not Ask if He must Serve But where He may Serve That's a Powerful Quote And I Know we Went to Valentine's Day right And we Had a Great Time Ate Some Good Food Had a Good Server I Can't Remember His Name Now But he Was Great It Was Something X Or Something Like That I Can't Remember Never Mind I Was Wrong But Great Time Go to You know You Look at The menu Try to See what You're Going to Eat And you Know you And you Prance Have a Good Server Like Have You Ever Had A bad Server Right Somebody's Like bro I'm Ready To go They Just Totally Miss Up The Whole Experience When You Have A Bad Server But He Was Great He Was So He Was Amazing Laugh We Had Jokes And All Of The Stuff It Was Really Cool He Definitely Blessed Us So Much That The Other Couple Were Went Back And Said Man Thank You So Much اذ God Blessed اذ He But I Wonder Right Or I Wonder Do Some People Come to church as if they come into a restaurant, right?

What's on a menu today? Who's speaking today, right? What can I be served today? But when you meet God, when you truly have a counter with God, you stop asking what's being served and you start asking, hey, use my hand and my feet to help out in some type of way. You start to ask questions like, what needs to be done? Not just into the building, right?

Not just into the building, but what about you? You are now the temple of the Holy Spirit. What needs to be done in you so that you can operate properly, so that God can use you properly? Because when Jesus touches your life, service stops being a burden and becomes a blessing. We have five kids. I got five excuses I could have. Trust me, I can't.

But my heart, like I want to see God just move in people's lives. Because it's not about just one person. It's not about just Pastor Adam, Pastor Harry. It's not about that at all whatsoever. We are all equal. But if we don't allow the healing power of God to step into our lives that transforms us, if we don't ask the question, God, I want to invite you into my life.

I want to invite you into every single situation that's going on in my life. I want you to be present. I want to walk side by side with you hand in hand. And I want you to guide me and lead me through everything that I'm experiencing. I don't want you to leave me because the Bible says that God will never forsake us. Amen. Amen. Amen. We have to desire God in such a radical way.

Verse 16 says this. The point I want to make right here. Transformation, it spreads. When transformation hits you, it spreads. Verse 16 says this. That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. You see, Jesus' healing presence, it encourages individuals to embrace wholeness.

You see, there's a difference between salvation, right? There's a difference between salvation and modification. Like, I met a lot of people who were good at modifying how they act in church. Right? Or how they act in different spaces. I don't see that all the time. But if you hang around long enough, the heart truly reveals itself. Let's not be, including myself, a person who knows how to modify to look good in front of people.

If you're hurting, if you're going through a tough time, a tough situation, become vulnerable so that God can heal that. So that God can get you to the right person or the right situation or give you the right word to bring healing to you. I love the fact that those who came to Jesus, they did not have to convince him to heal them. They didn't have to beg.

His presence, it already invites an invitation to wholeness. So as a church, we have to collectively understand the power that when we allow Jesus Christ to live and move and breathe through this church, through this ministry, it's going to spread past La Jolla. It's going to spread past your family. It's going to spread past your coworker. It's going to touch nations.

We have 15 missionaries here. That as we partner with those missionaries, as we come alongside with those who are going to the homeless, who are here in San Diego, as we partner with them, become the hands and feet of Jesus, this little small church on the corner can impact lives and generations. But we have to be the ones that invite Jesus into our situation.

But one thing I've learned that there's a few things that actually hinders healing. There's a few things that truly hinders healing. And I want to read verse 16 right quick as we come close to it. And it says that. The evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons and cast out the spirits that they were and healed all who were sick.

It didn't say right. It didn't say that he healed some that were sick. It didn't say that he healed one or two that were sick. It says that he healed all that were sick. All. Now, I know there's a lot of different theology when it comes to healing. And I don't know why some people don't get healed and some do, to be honest with you. And nor will I try to answer that question today.

Just not. I'm not stepping on that landmine. No. But I do know God is good. I live by that. I stand by that. And he's not tempted with evil. But we have to give him access. But unbelief is one of those things that hinders or restricts access to healing. Because when we have unbelief, we actually, like, misplace our confidence in ourselves a lot of times.

And it restricts the transformative power that God is trying to offer each and every person here. Matthew 13, 5 and 8, it says this, right? It says, And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Mark 6, 5 through 6 says this, And he could there do no mighty works save that he healed or laid his hands upon a few sick folk and healed them, and he marveled because of their unbelief.

You see, unbelief is not absent of information. It's not. It's not. We have the Bible. We have all the information we need right in here. But what we are lacking is confidence that we have place somewhere other than God. And I've learned over the years that God cannot heal in those type of situations. He may, but what I've experienced, he has not.

You see, God is good. He cannot be tempted with evil. But I love how, when we get to verse 17, how this ends. And how Matthew reminds us of what was spoken in the Old Testament. And we see right here in verse 17, it says this, This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah. He took our illnesses and bore our diseases. I'm sorry. You see, healing in Matthew is not a random compassionate experience.

It is the Masonic fulfillment that lets us know who Jesus was when he came on the scene. And what I love most about it, it shows us the heart of the Savior. It shows us how, like, he cared about a mother-in-law sick on her bed. Or on her son-in-law's bed, right? He cared about that. That he went to a very common place. A very sometimes private place too as well.

And he touches her hand. And her response still speaks to us today. That when God touches you, what will your response be? How will you respond to when the Savior comes on your doorstep? Can I come in? What if God is speaking to you right now? And said, hey, I want to save you. I want to transform you into what I know you can be. And there's three practical takeaways I want to talk about as we come to a landing, right?

And the first one is this right here. It's repent. Repent. Repent means to have a change of mind and a change of direction and start to go a whole different way on what we've been doing. The second one is this. Stop minimizing your pain. Stop minimizing what you have experienced, what you have gone through. Don't try to sleep under the rug. Talk about it.

Get the... You know one of the words that's used for healing in the Bible is the same way we're used for therapy. Like, get the help that you need. Some healings doesn't just happen automatically. It takes time. It's a process. And I also want you to do this. Release the guilt and the shame and the self-reliance that we all have done. And open your heart and consider if you have let Jesus into some of those secret places.

Because he truly wants to heal you today and forever. Amen? Let's go ahead and bring the worship team up right now. I hope that this message... If there's only one thing you heard today, I want you to ask yourself this. Is he invited? Is he invited? Now, on Wednesday, we're going to be talking about exactly what repentance looks like for Ash Wednesday.

So if you have time, come to the Ash Wednesday service at 12 p.m. It's going to be a great time. Thank you for your time. And we're soon, you got it. We're so great. Are you, Lord? If you want to stand with us one last time. Sing, it's your breath. Yes, it's your breath. In our lungs. So we pour out our praise. We pour out our praise. It's your breath.

In our lungs. We pour out our praise. To only. It's your breath. In our lungs. So we pour out our praise. We pour out our praise. It's your breath. In our lungs. So we pour out our praise. To only. One prayer of blessing over you as we head out of here. Father God. God. I pray right now, Lord God. That you have prepared every single heart to receive the word today, oh God.

And that they would ask the question, have I invited Jesus Christ into my life? And if they haven't, oh God. And if they haven't, oh God. I pray right now that they would come forward and get prayer. As the prayer team comes forward. I pray that they just get prayer, Lord God. And that you would show them how good and how great you are. Be with them as they go forth into the world, oh Heavenly Father.

Be a hedge and protection around them. Be a covering over them, oh Heavenly King. We thank you for this time and this space to worship you, to learn about you. So, in God. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And.
