released Upon our broken worlds And we are going to be Doing this series This is a This was a detour I got to tell you This was a detour This is not where I Planned to be today We're supposed to be In Genesis Supposed to be with Jacob Esau Finishing that story Back on that You know That adventure with them But I began to pray For healing And I began to see For the first time I think ever in our church Just a lot of A lot of infirmity A lot of sickness A lot of cancers A lot of emotional anxiety Depression All types of things And I was Just praying for it Over and over And starting to pray At night for people And seeing some breakthrough But as a pastor I personally Not only I just felt like The Lord told me That we should Do this series But also I really need To lock shields With you As a church To understand What's happening That we can pray For each other For healing And wholeness In our life To release God's power As a congregation Unity releases The power of God And so I want to do Some teaching on it Because the revelation Of God's word Opens up the kingdom For power healing There is a We've got some books In the bookstore One is by John Wimber It's called Power Healing I think we have that one We have a few more We'll tell you more About those books Coming up But we have some Resources for you And so we're moving Into the series It's a three week series We're going to be Continuing to pray For each other If you look in your Bulletin On the right hand side We kind of Changed the tear off To be something You could write down If you need healing prayer If you need power Of God's word To start praying For those together So hopefully you will Join us And then throughout The entire Easter Service season Starting with our Repentance service Which is traditionally Ash Wednesday We're going to continue To move into this healing So if you need healing If you need the power Of God upon your life Emotional Physical Spiritual Now is the time And we are going to Assault the throne of heaven As a congregation To see God move Upon his people Upon the world Amen No Start again Amen Let's go Come on Let's go We're not going to Assault with an amen Go to verse 1 We're going to jump Into this right away This is a passage Of Jesus Three stories About Jesus healing Matthew 8 When he came down From the mountain Circle came down Great crowds followed him And behold a leper Came to him And knelt before him Circle knelt And I'm saying Lord if you are willing There's that conjunction If you are willing You can That's in the affirmative Make me clean And Jesus stretched out His hand Circle stretched out His hand It's powerful And touched him Saying I will be clean And immediately His leprosy Was cleansed And Jesus said to him See that you say Nothing to anyone But go show yourself To the priest And offer the gift That Moses commanded For proof for them Verse 4 You can study on your own This week If you want to go deeper The reason he told him Not to say anything Is called the divine secret If you do it Don't search it now I know it's really easy Write down divine secret You can get deeper Into why Jesus Was keeping the secrecy Of his mission For a certain Until the full timing Had come Here's the main idea For today It is this That healing Is a visible Invasion Of the kingdom Into broken Human reality That when you see Healing When you see Wholeness Come into our world Into a broken world That has been marred By sin By disease By infirmity Because of the fall Whenever wholeness comes Then that is an invasion Of the kingdom of heaven And as believers We are called To not only believe That that can happen But to put ourselves In a position To harvest the power of heaven And to release it upon the earth With our prayers With our faith With our worship With our forgiveness All of these things To let your kingdom Come on earth As on earth As it is in heaven We'll be praying that today After the communion And so what we see here Is a visible invasion Of the kingdom This man with a leprosy It was a death sentence At the time It was something That you would not heal from You could live 20 years You slowly atrophy And you lose nerve sensation You can lose limbs You know We've all heard of it It's called Hansen's disease now And Jesus reaches beyond The cultural But also the physical infirmity To touch this man And with a touch With the outstretching of his arm He becomes whole It's a healing visible invasion First thing I want to say to you Is wholeness Is our true reality That's the true reality Now the enemy Would want you to believe That because of the fall That the true reality of mankind Kindness broken Infirmed Sick Unable to stand On your own emotional Two feet With God Obviously with you He wants you to believe that And not see That we were created In complete wholeness In the garden There was no sickness There was no disease There was no death And because of sin Entering in the world Any sickness Any infirmity That you see That you ever heard of Is a result of sin entering Sin caused a Breakdown of that wholeness And from that People began to be infirmed People said Well why do people You know I don't believe That somebody could live 250 years 400 You know the Bible says In the beginning In Genesis They lived all these years Well imagine a world Where every disease was gone Imagine cancer doesn't exist It actually has to be created Through deformity Right There was no disease So they had a perfect Disease free world The only way you're basically dying Is if you fall off a cliff Right But you're not going to get A disease and pass away Those diseases Began to continue To build upon themselves As sin continued To have its Outreachings into mankind We see so That your natural position At the beginning Was wholeness Now at the end of time When we end up With Jesus in heaven How do we end up Whole There is no sickness There is no disease There is no infirmity But in the middle We have this This bus stop If I can use the word That because of sin Has been released Jesus came Died on the cross That he took victory Over death He took victory Over sin But the results Of that still exist That being the case Jesus comes in With power And shows That when God wills Remember this leper Says very key I know you can But if you will He gives the opportunity For God to release A kingdom invasion Of his power Praying for healing Is normal Let me just tell you this Praying for healing For others For yourself Believing in the power Of God The release of Kingdom power The release of The Holy Spirit's power That is normal Christianity The devil wants you To think that that's Just for super Christians Or weirdos Who would believe That God might heal No Not a weirdo If you believe in healing You don't have to be Super Christian We can step forward And offer an opportunity This leper Takes a huge risk To go into a community Of that With a deadly disease Could cause stoning Could cause him To be killed But he was at His rock bottom And he reached out For Jesus Didn't touch Jesus But reached out And called out For healing He made himself An advocate for himself But a conduit For healing Let me set this up Before we go deeper Into this passage And exegete it If you have the gift Of healing You do not heal anyone You are a conduit Of God's healing You are the person That has enough faith To say I'm willing To reach out And to pray for you I'm willing to go To the hospital I'm willing to believe Beyond all doubt That these things Can happen You become a conduit Someone who is available Here I am God send me A kingdom invasion Of God's power Is normal It is a normal way That Christians Are meant to be I said a disease Was a sickness Romans 5.12 Let me give you Some New Testament We're gonna break down We're a little Bible study-ish today But this is important Because we're setting up A theology For you to learn How to live In kingdom power Romans 5.12 Says therefore Sin came into the world I told you about that Through one man And death Followed it Through sin And so death Spread To all men Because all sin Do you see what happened?

Sin came into the world Death followed on its coattails And with it disease And it began to spread Throughout humankind Throughout the world And we've seen the results Of sin It came into the world So your biggest disease Is sin Here's two Old Testament scriptures I want to show you One Isaiah 1.5 and 6 The whole head is sick The whole heart is faint And from the sole of the foot Even to the head There is no soundness But here's the good news Isaiah goes on a little bit further He's about What do you say 50 chapters 53 chapters later And he has this messianic call And it says By his wounds Speaking of Jesus By his wounds We are healed You know how Jesus healed sickness?

Not from running from it By becoming the very sickness By becoming the sin That was put upon him Or having the sin put upon him And by standing And allowing himself To face death Jesus died He took on all of our infirmities He took on all of our sins All of the sickness Because when he solved The problem of sin Then he solved the problem Of sin's effects That doesn't mean It doesn't exist today Because we still live in the world Right?

We're not in heaven yet But there is a new access Of kingdom power That we didn't have before So Jesus Healed all disease He's taken authority At least he's taken authority Right? He's taken authority Over it all Now once again You see this leper Comes up and he says Lord I know you can If you are willing This does bring A theological question Why doesn't God heal Every baby that gets sick?

That's a theological question The problem with pain Is a great book I can send you to With C.S. Lewis He'll do a better job Than I'm going to do On this one We're not going to go Into that theological point But we believe That God can We believe that God can Here's your two points today Restoration follows revelation See the majority of times When Jesus has healing power It's after he's preached the word When If you were If you study revivals Not all Because God is not bound By this But if you study the history Of power revival In the world Asbury revival Azusa revival The Celtic revivals The Scottish revivals If you just Revival after revival The 1970s Some of you were there It was the preaching Of the word And then the preaching Of the word Was confirmed as true By the power that followed Through healings In all these revivals You saw healing Revival is When people's hearts See the sin issue Needs to be fixed So if we're making a poultice Of healing Understanding healing One of the first things We want to do Is we pray for our own healing And pray for our others Is to ask Jesus To fix this problem of sin To come before him A clean vessel So restoration Follows revelation We'll see that In a second here Number two God's hand Releases his power We'll see Jesus stretches out his hand He touches somebody Beyond the walls He reached out Beyond the cultural walls And he's willing To touch this man And when he touches him He's touching him Far deeper Than just his leprosy needs He's touching a heart That has been outcast Talk about him in a second Go to verse one When he came down I already had you circle Came down from the mountain Circle it again Great crowds follow him Now if you miss That this is a Connection To what Moses did I want to make you aware of it Because what Jesus is doing On this sermon of the mount This beatitudes I've been to that very mountain Where Jesus taught There in Israel What he is doing there Is he's replicating What Moses has done before He's fulfilling it And when he comes down The mountain He comes with a different Type of power He comes with a healing power Let's just look at Moses First of all The mosaic understanding Is Moses ascends Mount Sinai He goes up on a mountain Right That's in Exodus 19 and 20 He receives the word Often times restoration Follows revelation The teaching of the word Healing follows the teaching Of the word over and over again That's why I want to teach The word And then let the word Which has power To transform Go after that But he receives God's law Then he comes down The mountain We saw that in verse 1 With Jesus To give God's word To the people And then he had glory But the glory he had His face was shining In Exodus In Exodus 34 He comes down His face is shining After I believe 40 days up on the mountain And he has this glory Of God And it's a glory That's upon him But the people Can't even look at him Right They can't look at him Now Jesus Fulfills and comes down In a different way The first thing we see Is Jesus goes up on the mountain Matthew 5 He goes up to What does he do He teaches the law And he doesn't undo What Moses is doing He confirms what Moses is doing But he keeps saying You've heard it said But I say this You've heard it said But I say this And he could have said this You heard Moses say But I'm saying this And what Jesus is doing Is bringing a fuller context To the teaching He's bringing a fuller context And with that fuller context Of download the notes If you look at the notes You see Jesus goes up to the mountain But then when he comes down In Matthew 8 And he comes down With healing power How do we know this Well go to verse 1 Of the passage we're teaching When he came down From the mountain Great crowds followed him And behold a leopard Came to him And knelt before him Says if you're willing And says read Jesus stretched out his hand He says I will be clean And immediately Key word The leprosy was cleansed You see when Jesus came down He didn't come down With just glory on him He came down With power to release We are a church That believes That we have The power that Jesus Has given us At least To put ourselves In a position Where God might move If he's willing The thing is Is so few of us Believe That he would ever use us Or we think We'll be weird Or whatever reason That we never get To the place That this leper Is doing for himself Of interceding For himself To actually Step out And to make a difference To see that power Go out It's a revelation Of the word We see that there So Jesus is doing What the Mosaic Understanding Is doing Let me give you An idea Of how to do this I want to challenge you Because praying For others Is normal We should be praying For people As a church And so What I generally do Is I've tried Really hard To be really spiritual And filled with God's power And not be weird Right I've tried really hard It's super hard Because I've been In church situations Where it's weird You know what I mean It's like Hey I want to Lay hands on you And give you a leg wrap At the same time And I'm like No I don't want To be touched that much You know I've had people ask me Can I just rub your chest With my hand I'm like No No No you can't No So I'll go to Trader Joe's And I'll talk to Somebody How you doing And if somebody says If they open up Sometimes I just pray For opportunities Before you go in anywhere Pray for an opportunity God before I go into the school Watch what happens Say God give me an opportunity To be your vessel And they'll say Oh you know I hurt my shoulder Playing basketball And I will do something Like this I want to immediately say I'm going to pray for you I'll say Use this one Use this one It's like fly fishing Right I just say Man I'm a person of prayer And what's your name Oh it's Mike Okay Mike I'm going to I'm going to pray for you I'm going to pray That God heals that I'm going to come back In a couple weeks And see how it's going But can you Mind if I like Pray for you And I have never Had someone say no to that Like you're not saying In the moment Now what I will do Is you will know In the moment If they're like Oh man I would love Some prayer Sometimes I'll say Can I pray for you Right now then You're just reading the room Right Just read the room Right If they say no Then no I've prayed for people At gas stations I've prayed for people Behind the counter I've prayed for people At football games Next to me At a football game I've prayed in the forest When we were You know We were riding motorcycles And somebody Their motorcycle Was having problems And we just stopped And prayed for them We prayed the motorcycle Would start And it started Like we just Putting yourself In a position For God to work In power Is normal Recently I was at A basketball game And a friend A guy on my team Got a concussion And we didn't know And I come over And I come out During the halftime And whatever And I see him And he's completely white Right Completely white He doesn't follow Jesus at all Completely white And I start I go Bro are you okay And he's like And I was like Whoa He's like Had a major Major concussion I said Hey can I pray for you He's like Yes please And so I laid hands I prayed for him Right there Like I'm You know I'm at the Jewish Community Center The game's still going on You know what I mean But I'm just on the sideline Because no one knows What's happening And then I tell You know The guy who's in charge Of the league Like hey We gotta get somebody here I told them first actually And then I prayed for him What was amazing Is he finally recovered It was a really bad concussion He was out for like three months But he started coming to church here Which is awesome And so he still comes to church here I just wanna tell you guys That's normal Right That's normal And I want to change our thinking So that we can be people That release that kind of power And do that kind of thing People are desperate For a touch from Jesus They are desperate We live in a broken world Where the love of people's hearts It says in the scripture This will happen Is growing cold Where when people are murdered People celebrate it We live in a We live in a dark culture And it is very We have to guard our hearts That we don't become like it And be the people That are the feet of hands In Jesus So I am I'm sending you out Let me just give you This one more verse here Go to Matthew 4 We're gonna drop down In the notes About Jesus This teaching ministry That led to power And he went Throughout all Galilee Teaching in all their synagogues Proclaiming the gospel The teaching of the word Revelation And healing every disease And every affliction Among the people It's so powerful That he goes out Here's another little tip It's healing prayer for dummies If I was gonna write a book It would probably be And I'd be writing it to myself Right?

Because it says No one knows how to pray Not anyone But what I do know Is that the word of God Is powerful You want to feather in The word of God Into your prayers In today's digital world It's very easy To go online And say Give me 15 verses That deal with depression Give me 15 verses That deal with this That deal with this And it's not hard These days It'll send you To a Bible website Or something else It'll give you verses And then I encourage you To pray the scripture Over the things in your life That need healing Over other people Scripture has power There is power In the word of God And restoration Follows revelation And I often times Will do the New Adam translation Where I will take A verse that I know If I'm talking to someone Wherever it would be Out in public Or whatever And I'll say You know Something like You know It's for freedom That we've been We've been set Totally free Right?

We're meant to be free It's for freedom We've been set free You know I'll just kind of Feather in verses As I'm speaking Because I know It's God's power That's normal But the enemy Wants you to be Ill-equipped And ill-advised To not know the word We need to know the word And especially If you have a specialty Something that like You're really focused in on Like a school Or whatever Surround yourself Surround your businesses With the word of God Put it on your They have screensavers You know It's easy They'll just give you A verse on your phone This whole thing I'm moving on This leper comes up to him Verse 1 and 2 Let me read it again When he came Down from the mountain The crowd said And behold A leper came to him And knelt before him Saying Lord If you are willing I told you This would be Complete Separation From society This leper Would have been He would have had to Carry a bell Or bang a pan Or scream Leper Unclean Unclean If you had This sickness You could not Come into the church anymore You would have to be Across the street Right And we can see you Over there But you're no longer You are out of community Now this is a theocracy Where community Was based around the synagogue Was based around the temple But no longer Could you be there And this leper comes And in desperation Asks for a move of God A sign and wonders John Wimber In a book Power Healing Which I stocked for you In the bookstore Go see Miss Kim afterwards A great book Said Signs and wonders Do not replace The word of God They confirm it They don't replace The word of God They confirm it We don't go around Being healers We proclaim the word of God And then we make ourselves A conduit To pray for healing To pray for those things Here's a second part That we're looking at Second point Is that God's hand Releases his power Go to verse 3 And Jesus stretched out his hand And touched him Saying I will be clean And immediately his leprosy Was cleansed In scripture Whenever Jesus Stretches out his hands Brokenness gives way To restoration You will rarely find anywhere It's intentional When the authors put it there Where Jesus reaches out Of his hands Whether it's to be To get Peter Or to put mud On a guy's eyes Or to whatever he did Every time he reached out And they were touched By Jesus It brought restoration And he was immediately Cleansed And brought into that Jesus has this hand of God And you know this I told you that it wasn't Unintentional Because Jesus stretches out And that word is used again In the Greek He stretches out his arms again And his hands again Later on in the Matthew And it looks like this You see when Jesus Stretches out his hand And it says it multiple times In scripture It's meant to refer to When he would stretch out his hands Because what he was doing As a precursor Preemptively Before he went out And stretched out his hands To become infirmity for us To take our sins upon himself Every time you see Jesus Stretch out his hands Remember that it says He was stretched out For our sins on the cross Stretched out And the Romans would pull They would pull Until you were disjointed They would stretch you out And Jesus was not afraid And every sin And every disease It says everything The root of it all Was put upon him And this is why In Gethsemane He sweat blood Verse 3 He stretched out his hand We see this stretching Out of the hand In scripture Once again Let's go back To the Mosaic understanding I'm giving you enough To chew on The rest of the week Okay I mean I was deep In this stuff And it is so powerful And rich Exodus 14 21 And this is interesting Because I knew This was from the Lord This morning I listen to the Daily Audio Bible every day In the Daily Audio Bible Scripture We were at Exodus 14 And this scripture Came up And it was also In the message So this stretched out Arm understanding I really feel like God confirmed it Then Moses Stretched out His hand over the sea And the Lord Drove back the sea By a strong east wind All night And made the sea Dry land And the waters Were divided Maybe you need A strong hand Of the Lord Stretched out To move back The sea in your life To prepare a way That you might be delivered Ask for his arm I was yesterday I was just I was just pulling weeds I was just doing Pulling weeds At our house yesterday And as I was doing I was like God stretch your arm out I need the arm of Jesus I need the arm of God Over my family Over my wife Over my children Over my friends Over the sickness Of people in this church I was praying over people That have had illness And sickness Over my own personal life I need the touch of God The hand of God And we live in a world That needs it And if you pray for it To go out before you Pray for him To prepare With the arm And hand of God Before you get there That you might be A conduit Because living With an expectation Of signs and wonders And the power of God To move through you Is normal Scripture says It's normal Now if he does it That's up to him It really has to do With his sovereignty The next we see That this mighty hand Was stretched out We sung that today In the song forever By a mighty hand And an outstretched arm Your love endured forever Jesus stretches out his arm I give you a bunch of verses here Matthew 8 Matthew 12 You'll see Mark 7 The deaf man This is every time Where Jesus is stretching out his hand There was probably 20 more of these And you In today's online world You can go find more But I just put some there Where Jesus is reaching out And touching I said we live in a world That desperately needs a touch That desperately needs to reach And you don't even need Your hands to do it To reach out To make sure people know That you know they exist And that they are children of God And so in this way We reach out And this is how we We change the world I put today We encounter the outstretched hands Of Jesus Through faith in his word Through prayer And through the laying out of hands In faithful prayer One verse for that Would be Mark 16, 18 They will lay their hands On the sick And they will recover So what's the practical takeaways?

What are the practical takeaways? Because I want Wednesday I want your Wednesday To look different Let me give you a challenge I want a challenge That you will at least Tell somebody Someone is going to tell you Something's wrong with them This week, right? Like Somebody is going to tell you Something's wrong How are you doing? Some people will answer Honestly, right?

They will You know Somebody somehow You're going to hear about something I want to challenge you To ask them Maybe not in that moment If you could pray for them And then follow up later Like intentionally go back And buy some more broccoli At Trader Joe's Get in that person's line Wherever you go Costco More of a Costco guy These days Healing prayer Is meant to be A normal part of church life Today we're going to pray For you up the front We're going to have Our prayer team come If you need emotional healing We have people Who are struggling With deep emotional Healing needs right now I know multiple high school And junior high students Girls mostly Who can't go to school Because of anxiety I've gotten five to six Of those emails In the last 18 months My daughter can't go to school She's afraid to go to campus So much anxiety Or my kid has tics Or whatever this would be It is normal church life I'll give you one story I was at a camp Early on 20 I just I didn't know any of this Right 20 years old I was at a Wesleyan church They didn't do a lot of teaching On healing But I had been Kind of fired up for Jesus I'd gotten saved from coke And all those things At party and whatever And a year later They asked me to be A youth counselor And I think it was A little early for me But nonetheless There I was I was at the camp And they were teaching And during the teaching There was this kid Wasn't from my youth group There were like 300 kids there And he had Tourette's Now Tourette's is kind of Going off the charts these days I think there's a lot of reasons For that Some I think are spiritual But as the teaching Would teach And as the guy was teaching He would go Like drop an F-bomb Right So it'd be like And the Lord said F-bomb It messes the service up I just gotta tell you It's really hard to preach When that's happening And it was like Every 30 seconds He would drop an F-bomb Right I need to explain What that is Right And I'm there And it's annoying me I'm like 20 years old And I don't know any better Right I don't know any better I'm just reading the Bible And trying to do what it said Because I had such a radical life Running through Indonesia And doing all this other crazy stuff I thought Well I'll just do the same crazy stuff But I'll do it for Jesus now So I'm there And it's annoying me Because he's like 15 F-bombs into it Right And no one's listening to the sermon You're just waiting for the next one I walk back I don't know what I'm doing I walk back I walk right Don't do this I walk right up to him I put my hand in his mouth And I said In the name of Jesus Be silent And he goes Jesus Jesus Every 30 seconds From that point on The rest of the message Jesus Jesus The rest of the camp Jesus Jesus No more F-bombs Only Jesus That is a true story That is 100% true story The Lord knows That is a true story I didn't know what I was doing I had no idea what I was doing But it worked It worked We thought we were in a charismatic church After that Healing includes Don't put your hand on people's mouths Okay Without asking Healing includes both physical and spiritual restoration The biggest sickness you have Is Our sin That's the biggest The biggest sickness we have is our sin And Jesus needs to heal us From that And it's from that That all restoration takes place Because all sickness and disease Came from sin And so from this We know that it comes That Jesus can heal that So we need to have a time of repentance We're gonna have the elders We're gonna take communion And then we're gonna have the elders And the prayer team come forward Because we wanna model this We're gonna be doing it tonight At 6.30 at the window But let me read James 5 14 and 15 If anyone Among you is sick Let them call the elders of the church To pray over them And to anoint them with oil In the name of the Lord And the prayer offered in faith Will make the sick person well And the Lord will raise them up If they have sinned They will be forgiven So we're gonna believe in that as a church We're gonna start believing for healing If you would stand We're gonna take communion now The way we take communion here Is if you are a believer in Jesus We invite you to the table Scripture says if you're not To make sure that you make that decision It's as easy as saying Jesus I wanna follow you I believe that you died on the cross for my sins And I wanna follow you And we're gonna come forward We're gonna take the cup and the bread We're gonna take it back to our seat Let's just reflect Let's take some time of silent reflection As the music plays And then I'll come lead you Through the communion So let's come forward for the communion Take me back to the moment I heard your voice Take me back to communion Lead me back to the moment I saw your face And it was all so simple It was easy to love And no space between us It was easy to trust Because you are closer Closer than my skin And you are in the air I'm breathing in And here's
