The Gospel according to John Chapter 3 Verses 22-30 After this Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside where he spent some time with them and baptized Now John also was baptizing at Enon near Salem because there was plenty of water and people were constantly coming to be baptized This was before John was put in prison An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing They came to John and said to him Rabbi that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan the one you testified about well he is baptizing and everyone is going to him To this John replied a man can receive only what is given him from heaven You yourselves can testify that I said I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him The bride belongs to the bridegroom The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice That joy is mine and it is now called to John and it is now complete He must become greater I must become less This is the word of the Lord Oh, child, come on in Jump in the water Oh, child, come on in Jump in the water Not called trouble Not called trouble With a mess You've been lost Underwater Right on Well, welcome to church today We are back into the Gospel of John series and we get into the story of the Gospel after Easter because a lot of people start coming back after Easter and they don't understand what the Gospel means Don't understand why Jesus do what he do I like this passage a lot too when John's disciples it's kind of funny That man over there is doing this baptism stuff and he's kind of taking your street cred and all everyone's going to him so that's interesting We'll talk about that next week and then that little bit at the end, right?

Does that not just hit? He must become more I must become what? Less We're going to dig into that So we're going to break this passage up into two weeks This week we're going to talk about the testimony of John and then the baptism of John and so part of the Gospel is understanding baptism When do you get baptized? Why do you get baptized? How does that all work?

There's a lot going on in this passage and it's all happening out in the wilderness It's happening out in the wilderness for a reason because Israel is in a wilderness at this point They have been under the subjection of the Roman rule for about 100 years We'll look at that in just a second and they want their kingdom back They want to rule once again and they know the only way to do that is through repentance and through ceremonial cleansing So they didn't really have baptism back then, the Jews They had some illustrations of it where I believe it was Elijah or Isaiah one of the prophets told the centurion go and dip yourself seven times in the Jordan So they had some ideas of that but they pretty much were vase washing back then They would cleanse themselves regularly It was a real clean, you know They would have loved COVID They wouldn't have any problem with it You know, just constantly cleaning, washing your hands the whole thing that's going on there But it's happening in the wilderness And there was a wilderness And a lot of people, I think this is key make decisions to follow Jesus because they enter into a wilderness in their life I will say, evangelistically if you want to have a lot of people come to experience the goodness of the gospel look for when people are in the wilderness On mountaintops, a lot of people don't have time for a gospel on a mountaintop But when there's a wilderness and when wilderness happens And so this is where we see them There's two words I want you to write at the top of your notes Testimony We're going to talk about testimony I want to talk about your testimony The second one is baptism We're going to talk about testimony and baptism how those go together starting with verse 26 I just want to hit verse 26 Let's go to it They came to John They said to him, Rabbi That man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan The one you testified about Well, he's baptizing too And everyone's going over to him Uh oh, we are losing followers on the gram We are dipping Our media presence is going down They were concerned about it John wasn't We'll talk about that next week and how that's a great motto for our lives I wrote, when I originally made these notes If you look in your notes You're going to see where it says Everyone has a testimony And I believed that until Saturday morning Until I continued to do my study And I thought, well I could talk about Everyone has a testimony We're all saying something And the look on your face is your testimony And this whole thing When I continued to study Which I do on Saturday I realized that testimony As I looked up the definition of it Is not a story There's a difference between a story And a testimony A testimony is legally binding A testimony is something that you give in court A testimony is something that when you say it under oath It has ramifications for the testimony you're giving about a certain person or event And it has ramifications about you And if you lie under when you're giving a testimony You are perjuring yourself What I realized when it comes to Christians Is not everyone does have a testimony Not everyone testifies Everyone has a story But I came to understand that a testimony is not a story I always had thought Maybe you have as well That a testimony was just the God version of a great story It's not Testimony is a legally binding That we'll see here in just a moment If you remember Pastor Harry last week He focused on a word And if you remember it It says in John a little bit earlier This is the what Started with a V Verdict You see John is setting everything up in his gospel As a legal courtroom drama He's talking about legality He's talking about judgment Light has come into the world And now he's talking about testimonies being given And the people that are on trial are us And Jesus goes on trial himself And he sets us free by paying the price That's the gospel And this is the courtroom setting And now the courtroom has moved out into the Judean countryside And Jesus is taking the baton from John Because John was there for a reason This word testimony is important And if you look at There's a couple other verses They're in your notes I boxed them One is one of my favorite verses It's Revelations 12-11 It tells you the power of a testimony And it's not the power of a story It's the power of a testimony It says this And they That's us the church Overcame him By what?

In this order By the blood of the lamb It is Jesus' blood that sets you free It is his blood on the cross That paid for the life blood on us It is his blood for ours It is his blood By the blood of the lamb And one other thing This is how they overcame Satan And the word of their testimony Two things The blood of the lamb You need that That's the building block The blood of the lamb And the word of their testimony If you want to overcome Satan In your life You need to have a testimony That testifies about God About who he is About truth About the resurrection About the things that the word says is true And then I love this And this is something that John Would soon find out Because he testified He must become more I must become less Well he becomes so much less That he ends up being killed And martyred We'll see that in just a moment And they loved their lives Not unto death This would be proven out Over the next 300 years As the Roman Empire Comes into a conclusion For the next 300 years 400 years After Jesus died on the cross Christians one after another You can look at Fox's book of martyrs Stood in Colosseums And sang hymns As the lions tore them apart As the gladiators came And struck them down Over and over again And they have continued to do it Centuries and centuries And they still do it In places throughout the world today Where they are being attacked In different places like Africa In the Middle East In Asia Sometimes even here in America Not as often Thank God But it says this once again And they overcame whom?

Who? That's Satan By the blood of the lamb By the word of their testimony And they loved not their lives Unto death Matthew again A few gospels back Says this In Matthew 12 37 And by your words And by your words You will be acquitted Jesus says this And by your words You will be condemned It's interesting By your words you'll be acquitted And by your words You will be condemned Interesting that Even Herod and Pilate Tries to wash his hands of Jesus He sends him to death But thinks a little Washing of the hands Is gonna take care of business We only overcome our sin By the blood of the lamb That we find So here's the question When it comes to testimony I was really convicted by this Because I have a lot of God's story But a testimony's different A testimony has different elements It has elements of the gospel That lift up Christ We can talk more about that Another time But I said this If you were being accused Of being a follower of Jesus Would there be enough evidence To convict?

If right now You were being accused Of being a follower of Jesus Would there be enough evidence To convict? You know you might get off You might get off on a technicality If it's Well you know This person here We think they're a Christian They did go to church on Sunday And they hit the cafe up And I think their favorite drink Was the lavender latte But that's been all the evidence We got on them Okay well there's not enough To convict Loved Harry's story last week About I think it was Ironside was the guy's name And he said to the atheist Yeah he goes You know I'll have a debate with you If you could bring me two Other atheists That you have led to atheism That came out of the darkness And they're just excited About atheists And I'm gonna bring a hundred Christians who have been Brought out of the darkness I love that story One of the things You will know If there's enough evidence To convict If there's a few people You can call after the service Who know Jesus Because you led them there Maybe you weren't the one That got on your knees with them And you prayed it out With hand to hand But you began the conversations You took them to church You took them to church Or whatever it was And they know Christ now Because of you If you were on trial For being a Christian Would there be enough evidence To convict Here's the main point today The power of our testimony Is found in word And in deed You're not saved by your deeds That's works But we are saved by his blood And the word of his testimony And truth that is in the Bible We are saved only by the blood of Jesus And so it says this We are saved by our words And our deeds It says that if you It says when we get to heaven one day If we believe in our hearts We will go to heaven, right?

Not what it says If you believe in your hearts And you do what? That's right I don't know who said that in the back You get four points extra If you believe in your heart There's a secondary thing It always starts with belief It always starts with the blood It doesn't start with the confess Because then that's building it off our foundation It starts off the blood If you believe in your heart Confess with your mouth You will be saved Go to verse 22 and 24 Let's jump back into the text And Jesus and his disciples Went out into the Judean countryside Where he spent some time with them And baptized I want you to circle Spent some time with them When we get to the practical part here In the end in a few minutes I'm going to hit why that's important He spent some time with them And he baptized Jesus was baptizing Now John was also baptizing At Anon near Selim Because there was plenty of water there And people were constantly coming to be baptized This was before John was put in prison Now remember John has his head cut off Talk about that in a second And why Verse 23 There's some important things He had to go out to a river Because there were so many people coming there And he needed plenty of water Meaning Trying to do the whole Vaz thing That the Jews were doing at the temple And the washing There were so many people coming It was just more efficient To go to a river Now I've been to this river I've been to this place I've been in the water near They don't know the exact place And I've actually baptized People here today That I've baptized in that water There at that place It was awesome Great place to be It's a good hour 30 By car Yeah that's right And so He's like yeah dog 130 I've done it myself too That baby's on it Now they're not taking a car They're walking out into the wilderness Into the Judean countryside To be baptized for a reason To go see this weird prophet In camel's hair And who's eating locusts For a reason And I want to say There is a reason And I'm going to tell you Why that reason is In a second But it's because John Is testifying to who Jesus is He says that If we go back to Matthew 3.1 Matthew 3.1 says In those days John the Baptist came He came preaching In the wilderness of Judea That's on purpose Jesus went to the wilderness As well after he was baptized And saying repent For the kingdom of heaven Has come near And we're going to circle the word repent We're going to stop right there In that Matthew passage And say John's baptism Was not the same baptism That you and I get I'll tell you why in a second His was a baptism of repentance It was repenting Getting ready For the coming of the Messiah Jesus comes Takes the baton In the wilderness Also baptizes He's also baptizing in that place But then After Jesus dies on the cross Jesus dies on the cross We have a different type of baptism I'm going to break those two apart Because you'll remember Later on in the book of Acts Right Turn to the right About 7500 pages Whatever it is Paul meets some guys I think it's in Turkey And he says to them Were you baptized?

They said yeah we're baptized He goes what kind of What baptism were you baptized with? They said we're baptized With the baptism of John And Paul says well that's the baptism of repentance I'm going to baptize you again In the fullness In the resurrection That comes after the resurrection So John's out there And we're back to the Matthew passage In verse 3 now 3-3 This is who was spoken through Isaiah A voice of one calling in the wilderness Prepare the way for the Lord And make paths straight for him This is important because John was sent In the old school prophet manner In the Isaiah manner In the Elijah manner In the Habakkuk manner In the manner of these old school prophets And everyone in Israel understood a prophet But what Israel didn't need anymore Was a prophet They needed a savior And so he is prophesying in that old school way And the Jews understood Let me tell you why they understood The Jews had been taken over twice Since the glory days of Solomon right?

They had Solomon and his kingdom And then everything fell apart after that And then you had the Assyrian takeover You had the Babylonian takeover And they were taken into captivity twice Somebody came across their border Took them as slaves And took them to the other side of the border Took them to Babylon This had happened twice Things had changed You know the book of Daniel They had come back And now they were there And they were ruling once again About a hundred years before this It was called the Hasmonean dynasty Right?

This was a bunch of Jews That were living there They controlled the Temple Mount again They were having sacrifice again And they were basically A protectorate state Of a Hellenistic government But the Jews were there They owned Jerusalem They had a temple And this was called The Second Temple period Well in AD 63 Before Julius Caesar It's a great little history lesson for you Pompeii comes in He's the ruler before Caesar And he sieges If you do a Google search For the seas of Jerusalem In AD 60 Excuse me Excuse me Before Jesus 63 He does a siege They take over the Jews And the Jews From that point on Never control Jerusalem again Until 1947 That doesn't until 1948 It doesn't happen again until then Now Pompeii You know that God Had left the temple at this point Why?

Because Pompeii walks into the temple Into the Holy of Holies And nothing happens to him Don't try that 600 years earlier Because you're going to get taken out And so the Jews now Jesus is 30 years old now It had been 90 years basically Since Pompeii had come And they were under subjection again The Romans were in charge And they wanted their nation back And the Jews knew the only way To get the nation back Was to cleanse themselves And to repent And to repent Because over and over again If you read the Old Testament prophets What do they say over and over again?

If you confess If you repent If you cleanse yourselves I will call you mine again I will be your father You will be like a chick in my hand On and on and on again It is repentance Repentance And so there was this ceremonial cleansing I'm going to read what that was And why they went out to John They were desperate You don't walk Two days into the desert I've been to that desert It gets hot The hottest day of my life Was at the Dead Sea It's not far from this area I was with Greg And a few others here at the church It was 123 degrees And with the Chiraca wind They call it blowing It felt like 130 It was unbelievable It was the hottest day of my life Two people died Within the two days That we were there It was hot You don't walk into that desert Unless you're desperate Once again God does great things With desperate people And keep your eye out For people that are in the wilderness Not just to win them to Christ But to care for them And to love them So they walk out to hear this prophet Because why?

They want their nation restored These are people who are zealous for God They go out there And the line is so long So many people were coming He had to go to a river Once again Let's go back to that text Verse 26 Excuse me Because there was lots of water there There you go Verse 23 Now John was also baptizing At Anon near Salem Because there was plenty of water there And people were constantly coming to be baptized I think it's possible We might not be too far from a place in our society Where people start realizing again I need to be baptized They might not know the word But they know they need something And they need someone who is in the wilderness Not just here in this church In the wilderness Crying out Not just a good story But with a testimony Where you utter the name of Jesus off your lips Where you ask people if you can pray for them Where you begin to testify that he is good Where you begin to do things I'm not saying where you just, you know You give people so much light you blind them Remember that song from the 70s, Blinded by the Light We're not blinding people with the gospel We're using wisdom But some of you are shepherds out there in that wilderness All of us could be shepherds in that wilderness And we want to meet those people there Because I don't think we're far from a time When the church once again With it's missionaries out in the field That is you at the YMCA And all the places you go Where we're going to become a trauma center And Jesus over and over If you look at the people that he was meeting He was in a trauma center He was like a physician We have some ER nurses here and doctors He was in a trauma center And he was meeting these people That had been sexually abused Or the woman at the well Had all those husbands Or people that were lepers And wouldn't be spoken to And they've been cast out and cast away This is the message of the gospel And these are the type of people That God wants to send in And so John is testifying But he's not only testifying He's there with deeds He's baptizing with deeds But it says some of them Remember a minute ago in Revelation Some of them would give They wouldn't consider their lives worthy to keep But they would go unto death John ends up doing this Because he testifies To I believe it's Herod's wife To Herod Hey, you can't marry your brother's wife bro You can't do that Now Herod was a Jew, right?

He's a Jew If you know that Romans were good at taking somebody Who's part of your system And they just keep your system You're gonna work for us now But you keep That's why Matthew's a tax collector Works for the Romans This whole thing And John said you're a Jew Can't marry your brother's wife bro And they got tired of that And so eventually The woman who is saying that about Had her daughter have his head cut off You know the story You can read the story I wanna read about this ceremonial cleansing So these people went out there And this is what it says I looked up ceremonial cleansing It says beyond a practical significance Of just being clean Ceremonial cleansing holds deep symbolic meaning In Jewish tradition It represents the removal of spiritual impurity The restoration of holiness And the opportunity for spiritual renewal And transformation Holiness and cleanliness Before God Before Jesus died on the cross And this is the system God set up Was like trying to hold A thousand marbles in your hands It was Okay you get them like this And then you know You start walking And one falls out of your fingers The next thing it's just Oh I'm uncleansed again I ate something I shouldn't have eaten And there was all these rules To being clean That you had to have this cleansing This is what they understood That changed once Jesus died on the cross Jesus died on the cross And now you are clean Even the sins you haven't committed yet Have been forgiven Now you still need to ask for forgiveness for them But he died for all sins Going forward and back It isn't like you sin He's like oh I got another one to take care of No He died for all sins The idea that once you are in Christ That you need to have your soul purified And cleansed again That's not what the New Testament says It says that once you accept Christ You're forgiven for your sins Even the ones you're going to commit Now some people will say Well then why don't I just keep on sinning If I'm completely clean Paul talks about that in Romans There's this big argument in Romans 6 And Paul says God forbid Don't do that That's not what we're talking about You still need to tell God I'm sorry for what I did I didn't live up to it But you don't need to keep washing yourself We do need to say Jesus Forgive us of those sins But you those sins Have already been forgiven You're not being forgiven You're actually receiving the forgiveness That's already happened Does that make sense?

So that ceremonial washing has ended Let me just explain it this way In the Old Testament Ceremonial cleansing Was done to purify you Before you met with God Right? So before you could meet with God Like the Before you could go into the temple You had to cleanse yourself You couldn't go in In the New Testament Baptism Is used as a testimony After you've already met with God Do you see the difference?

Let's say this is God here If you are pre-Jesus death on the cross You're doing ceremonial cleansing Because I'm going to meet with God I'm going to meet with God So I've got to get all clean And then maybe if I'm good Whoa I can step in Because I got all cleansed And I'm covered by that sacrifice And then those marbles fall on my hands And I'm back here again As a Christian The blood baptizes us And sets us free We are washed not by the water We're washed by the blood We get baptized After having met with God You see you don't get it before You get baptized afterwards As a testimony To what his blood has cleansed you Let me tell you That when you become dirty Because of our sin Because we all sin Jesus doesn't The Holy Spirit doesn't Jump out of your body We are a temple How can the Holy Spirit Live in our body Continuously Because the blood of Christ Even from the sins You haven't committed yet Even from the sins That you are doing at the moment Because it's the blood of Christ Otherwise The Holy Spirit Every single time you sinned After you have accepted Christ Would have to go Oop here comes the sin Jumping out And then he's out Until you go get washed again That's not how it works That is why We are baptized As a testimony To what the blood did for us This is the baptism of John This is the baptism of Christ When you understand The baptism of Christ You can stop living in guilt There is no use for guilt With a Christian Let me see There is a use for conviction There is no use for guilt Guilt is a way to pay For your own sins And many people do that right You commit a sin And you feel bad about it You ever done that You get in an argument You say something you shouldn't say And then you're like I really feel bad And then they just keep getting You shouldn't have said that You shouldn't have Yeah I feel really bad How long until you're like Hey I've paid enough penance Okay enough I said I was sorry I'm done That's what guilt is Guilt's a way you pay for it Until you feel like You're done paying for it right We are not saved because of that We are saved because of what Jesus did on the cross And because he died We no longer And he has saved us from all of our sin There is no longer any guilt Now there is conviction When God says stop doing that We need to stop And so conviction So if you're a person that just You're constantly guilty about stuff It's unbiblical You're wasting your time It's not going to help you Jesus died He died for all of your guilt and shame There is no more guilt and shame Before God And that's the audience of one You're playing for But if he tells you and convicts you Stop doing that I suggest you stop doing it If you want to walk in all of his fullness And his blessing And so we see that In Acts 19 I just want to tell you this About John's baptism And I hope that gives you a better understanding Of baptism and testimony And why it matters John 19 4 says Then said Paul This is the story I was telling you about In Acts 19 John verily baptized With the baptism of repentance Saying unto the people That they should believe On the one which should come after him That is Christ Jesus He was saying hey Let's get clean Jesus is coming Now when you're baptized Jesus has come Jesus has come I am already clean You don't get baptized and then believe You believe And then you baptize Why?

Because baptism ain't gonna get you into heaven Neither are any other works But the works are a testimony Because we have to have a testimony Because we're saved by the blood of the lamb The word of our testimony And I would say the acts of that As we do it And so what I said is I've already told you that About the Old Testament Continually need to be cleansed I have two verses Before I give you two practical takeaways And we're done Revelations 1-5 is a really good verse It's in your notes And from Jesus Christ Who is the faithful witness And the first begotten of the dead The prince of the kings of the earth Unto him that loved us And what?

Washed us from our sins By his own blood We wallow in guilt When we think that our sins Are harder to erase Than the power of Christ's blood To erase them I understand why we do it But it's almost like a form of spiritual arrogance To think his blood isn't good enough To wash me of all my sins I've done You know I just I screwed up so much There's no way you can take care of this one He's I've taken care of it Why is this practical for us?

Because you are cleansed from all unrighteousness If you are a person that walks in guilt And you're a believer in Christ It doesn't exist for you anymore Now Paul talks Don't just go sin That's stupid Is basically what he says We're not doing that Guilt doesn't exist for you But conviction does Now conviction can be a problem If you know you're supposed to stop doing something And you haven't stopped It's gonna hound you It's gonna bite Stop, stop, stop, right?

And you're gonna be like Get off my leg Like a dog just coming after your leg, right? Conviction And then when we don't follow conviction What do we do? We allow Satan to bring us guilt, right? So we allow Satan to bring us guilt And then we wallow in that guilt And that's what Christ wants to set us free from In John 1, 9 This is a great verse This is a verse you need to memorize For a testimony verse Testimony verse I believe that Christians should have a cache of 7 to 9 verses that you can lead someone to Christ with I think if you lined up most Christians and you had them come forward Give me just 5 Just give me 5 verses And I'll let you use John 3, 16 That you have memorized That you could systematically tell someone that they're a sinner and that Christ saved them on the cross Just 5 If you can give that to me I think probably 5% of Christians could do that I think probably 10% of pastors could do it Probably 20% of pastors One of these verses is this though 1 John 1, 9 It says If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins And to what?

To cleanse us from all unrighteousness Some unrighteousness? All The sins you are going to commit next week have already been forgiven by Jesus Or he didn't take victory over sin He's having to pay it as they go He's not a pay as you go system His blood paid for it all And you were under the freedom of that Freedom I want to give you freedom and say that to you So here's two things Here's two practical takeaways that you can do on Thursday Because I want this to be a Thursday, Wednesday sermon Reboot your testimony Reboot your testimony If you only have a God story A little story A couple God Yeah, I went to camp one I don't know Maybe that's it But if you just have a story that's about your life But you're not testifying I want to encourage you Start testifying See, and use the word of God when you testify That's more powerful than the word you can think of If you know the word of God Begin to testify Now, don't be annoying, please Please, we don't need more annoying people in the world, right?

We've got me And I think that's enough, right? But get a testimony Do you have any friends that testify? They're always testifying They just have a, you know They know the scriptures They know why they're saved They talk about Jesus to people You'd be surprised I think it's a lie That no one wants to hear about another way Or about Jesus They don't want a bunch of political opinions But they want to know about freedom And what it's set you for Get it, reboot your testimony What you talk about is what you care about is what you love We're in small group this week I love my small group They say, what you talk about is what you love And one of our friends I know I'm on pickleball all the time But she says, I just love pickleball That's all I talk about is pickleball I feel like, I feel guilty Because I feel like I love pickleball more than I love Jesus I gotta start changing my testimony And we talked about it So that'll, once again You'll never hear that out of my mouth I think a woman left the church Because I made fun of pickleball And I'm gonna keep making fun of her I totally apologize And I'm in the minority I totally get that I'm in the minority And my wife wants me to take it up with her So, but you will never see me Until I'm out there with my plastic thing So reboot your testimony Sorry Embrace the blood I'm totally in the minority We just lost 20% of our tithe Embrace Embrace the blood of Jesus Nothing but the blood of Jesus Will set us free And will save us Let's stand if you would We have our prayer team come forward If you need, if you're a believer And you just wanna just come confess your sins We pray with you up front We pray men with men, women with women We got our prayer team coming forward Got some amazing people Come forward and pray Or if you need healing Come forward and pray I will say if If this is something that sounds good to you And you don't know Jesus And you hear the voice of the one crying out in the wilderness And you wanna know Jesus today You can come forward They'll lead you to Jesus right now We will pray for you We will get you baptized We have baptisms coming up here in a few weeks On Pentecost Sunday We got some baptisms coming up We'll get, we'll get you right with Christ And get you saved If you just wanna look and tarry a while Cause that's what that scripture said He tarried with them Go out to the next steps table Get some of the information Check it out, read it Keep coming back to church Keep coming back You can do it two ways You can follow slowly Or you can go right now And they will lead you to Christ right now If you extend your hands I wanna bless you today Lord Jesus, I wanna bless you Bless your people We love your word We love the blood of Jesus That sets us free Just say, if you're under the blood Just say in your own words Just say thank you for the blood Thank you for the blood Just say it together Thank you for the blood I confess that I've been living in guilt And I cast out Your blood is greater than my guilt So Jesus, I pray for these people God That you would remove their guilt That you have removed the guilt And that they would know that And live according to the word And according to your truth We bless you now I bless your families I bless your feet And everywhere you go I bless your testimony I bless the top of your heads That God would shine upon you The face of God would shine upon you In all that you do That it would be reconciliation To your relationships That you would be an ambassador to him For him In the wilderness Crying out with a testimony That says, Jesus Christ is Lord And I am saved by the blood In the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit Amen
