The Transfiguration as the hinge where Old Testament glory hands off to New. Pastor Adam finds three deliberate echoes of Exodus in the scene, and borrows from Lewis to argue that glory is not brightness or achievement — it is acceptance.

One point this week: when do you stay, when do you fight, and when do you run? An angel gives Joseph two verbs and no explanation. Pastor Adam notes what gets missed — the escape was funded before it was ordered.

The Magi came from the class Daniel was put in charge of six hundred years earlier — which makes the exile the hinge of the Christmas story. Pastor Adam opens a new series on the childhood of Jesus, and takes “they went home another way” literally.

Jesus leaves after John is imprisoned, and Pastor Adam refuses the obvious reading: this is strategic withdrawal, into border country Isaiah called deep darkness. God does some of his best work in obscurity — and the confession that follows is unflattering.

Joseph was faithful to the law, and yet would not expose Mary to disgrace. Pastor Adam makes those three words the hinge — faithfulness to the law required her death — and builds Advent on consideration, obedience, and four words to carry into the week.

The Commission spends its verbs on what happens after conversion — baptising, teaching, obeying — which is long, repetitive and unreportable. The promise attached is proportionate: a commitment to accompany a process rather than attend a launch.

“All authority has been given to me, therefore go.” Pastor Adam puts the weight on the therefore, and on verse seventeen, where worship and doubt are recorded in the same breath and the commission is handed to the mixed group anyway.

Matthew notes that the two men were so violent no one could pass that way. Pastor Adam builds on that: a blockage on a road, deliverance that clears a route — and a town that, having seen it, asks Jesus to leave.

Jesus says when you fast, not if. The message stays with a practice arranged around being unseen — and the scripture is read audio-only by a worker in the Middle East who cannot be seen without risking the people she serves alongside.
